Good game by Oswalt, Wright, and Brocail. No time to breathe easy but at least there is some respite.

Unless somebody better shows up. When this happens you have to play it by ear.

Cooper is starting to wear on me. I don't know why with two on base and two outs that he didn't pinch hit for Moehler there you have to attempt to win. Not just throw games in the trash bin.

Or, how in hell you allow Sampson to screw the game for 6 runs in 2/3 of an inning.
We really, really have a bad manager in our hands.

Cooper continues to send Jr. to hit left handed, he is awful hitting lefty. Cooper has to be worse manager in baseball. Now Geary is pitching? ?// losing by 5? ??///// Well, thats what happen when you don't use Jr. with 2 on base AGAINST A LEFTY, then you use him as a left handed hitter with no one on. Cooper is very, very dumb.

What irritates me is he started out acting like he wants to go a long way with Moehler. Loses the opportunity to score some runs get back in the game, and then gets blown out staying with Moehler who was already looking shaky in the previous inning. Then he treats the game like he doesn't want to pitch any pitcher for long. You can't have it both ways.

Mohler and Sampson are the last 2 pitchers in our staff, so, treat them that way, SHORT LEASE.
No way you can allow Sampson get scored 6 times before you pull him out, that stupid.
Sampson is a triple a pitcher, Mohler is a mop up guy, should not throw more than 2 innings in any game UNLESS YOU ARE LOSING BY A LOT, not by 2.

The managers job should have been given to Jose Cruz. "Cheo" has plenty of managerial experience in the Winter Leagues. Plus Cheo cares about this team and organization because he is emotionally attached to the team and really cares whether the team does well or not.
People like Cecil Cooper, Jimy Williams etc., are not emotionally attached to the organization. People like Cooper simply hope to draw a fat paycheck for a couple or three years and sock it away before they get fired and then go take a third base coaches job somewhere else for the remainder of their careers.
Also, Cooper doesn't have a clue how to handle a pitching staff...he's winging it as he goes. I also get the feeling that deep down inside, he also doesn't really care whether this team and players succeed. He just want's to hang on long enough to make enough money to retire on before he's given his walking papers....and he will.
The other problem is between the players that were hung out to dry because of the Craig Biggio season long "love fest" and what Purpura and Garner did to screw this team up so badly that it will take 3 or 4 seasons to overcome the mess that was left.

i agree with james...Cruz has put his time in....why cooper would take chacon out is beyond me..The guy had, what, 4 hit ball over 8 innings? This isnt just cooper that does this...theres far too much coaching going on...bring in so and so to face so and so..its bs and rarely works out..just let the best 8 guys play and rotate pitchers ..take a pitcher out only when its clear the pitcher has lost it...other than that stay the f**k out of it...
Thats the one thing i agreed w/ chandler on...a team needs to start the best possible players...if Pence isnt hitting, send him to round rock to think things over...if cruz jr sucks cut his ass etc...im not trying to be the bad guy but you cant win by playing peoples favorites...(ie biggio) Its the f**king idiot fans that pick the all star game and look at some of those players that make it...why would a owner play so and so because he is the peoples favorite? Money? he would get a lot more money if his team wins and that would cure the pissing off of the fans when their boy doesnt play thing...
This is a business...While i think a manager has to be loyal, to what end? 10 or 11 blown saves? The top 2 guys in the batting order hitting .220?
10 or 11 games back now isnt much, but when you're talking late august and early sept, it might as well be 40 games back..its over at that point...No, i would hold every single one of these guys accountable..if oswalt has another bad outing i would skip his ass in the rotation...we can bring someone up from AA and be as effective as roy has been and at one tenth the cost.....owners pay a lot of money to some real deadweight players...some of these guys should feel ashamed they collect those giant checks..

Also, Cooper doesn't have a clue how to handle a pitching staff...he's winging it as he goes. I agree with you particularly on this point. While you need a good pitching coach, you also need a manager that understands how to handle pitchers. I think Dierker did and it helped us to have as much success as we had in those years.
