The owners should see to it that he gets a LOT less than he wants.......a LOT less.

I just can not see paying anyone that kind of money. Imagine for a second that a team signs him for that kind of money. Then imagine him standing at the plate a taking one in the head because a pitcher lost control, or imagine him chasing a pop fly and crashing into the outfielder and tearing up his knee so that he is permanently disabled. That stuff happens.
Sure there is insurance but my understanding on that stuff is that it comes with a premium equal to 8% of the compensation. So if you sign him and take out insurance on the total contract then you pay a 30 million dollar premium. 3 million a year in just insurance.
You handicap your team for 10 years if you give in to Boras and sign him. I can not imagine a gm that stupid.

I think theres a lot of resentment about his salary...I dont think that automatically makes teams play bad around him but its not good for the team....The fact players make that much just shows you how much the owners truly are making....Its hard to convince people so and so lost 30 mil on the year. These owners are incredibly intelligent and from what i can find, are self made. i dont know 1 single owner that inherited his team? im sure there are but very few...Nobody anywhere is going to prove some teams are losing money..'oh i lost 30 mil on the year' Thats BS..Thats 30 mil less than the owner thought he was going to make...he didnt lose sh*t
having said that...there is a salary cap in baseball..its called the owners... every last one of these players would be out there for 500k..except the big names who have been around for a while and have enough money, the rest would play that game for half a million dollars. you show me another job that pays a south american with a 5th grade education that much? ..screw that..show me a harvard mba that makes that right out of school? aint gonna happen because it doesnt happen..
The owners created the ARODS because of their ego's...thats the owners one shortcoming..they have to have the best and one up the other owner

AROD'S own fault for having this jackass for an agent. He needs to remind Borass that he works for AROD, not the other way around.

having said that...there is a salary cap in baseball..its called the owners... They tried that already and were sued for collusion. The real issue is the players union controls baseball. All other pro sports have either broken or beat down the player's unions in their respective sports. The NBA hammered them into the soft cap and a max salary per years of service (still quite a bit mind you but there is only so much a player can make). The NFL completely obliterated the player union and they have a hard cap with only guaranteed money in signing bonuses. But if you perform and do well, you will get most of your money in many cases. Baseball has failed to do this on multiple occasions.

And why is that? Because the owners are a bunch of p*ssies that have no backbone. Players want to strike? Go ahead! The fans are tired of the ridiculous salaries these idiots are making, so I think that the fans would actually support the owners. That is if the fans have any brains.

hmmmm...I think it is the fans that are a bunch of p*ssies with no backbone..In the end, it is the fans that pay the rediculous salaries....Look right here on this board...Our team has a 100 Mil payroll, and we think he is a tightwad....The fans only get pissed about how much the OTHER team pays players...Believe me, we will all be happy to sign ARod, or Manny, or any other jerk that performs.

You are absolutely correct.
Now my question to all is: Why should athletes make more than teachers, doctors, engineers, architects, etc. when all they do is play a game for a living and these other people are teaching our kids, healing the sick, building the country and generally contributing to everyones benefit?
People put way too much emphasis on sports and athletes in order to live vicariously through them.

why should athletes make more money?...Why indeed?...however, the reality is that they make millions because they generate thousands of millions, which sadly doctors( scratch that...way overpaid also in my opinion) teachers and NURSES only pave the way for those thousands of millions to be made.

They tried that already and were sued for collusion
im not talking about the owners getting together and stiffing these guys..im talking about owners who say' 20 mil aint gonna happen' and then he lowers the price of a f**king program or beer at his stadium....teams cant be sued if they just refuse to pay 20 mil for a player ... i dont think thats collusion at all...juries will have a hard time understanding why it is these guys make 20 mil per year while their family of four cant pay all their bills in the same month.... or even a middle class family of 4 where both parents have college degrees and make 60k per year a piece how about the bricklayer that builds the stadium and then cant afford to attend the games? f**k these players....there should be a ceiling on how high salaries can go and arod has been hitting his head on it for several years now
i tend to agree with the owners...while i think they should spend to field a team people will come to watch, and one thats better than their local softball beer league team, its their investment....They're the ones who spent 400 mil to buy it.....why should these guys be held hostage?

doug thats flawed logic...you're telling me the doctor who saves your baby's life or stops your wife from bleeding to death delivering him is less worthy? you're saying the doctor who spent 12 years in medical school is overpaid? You do realize some of these guys have over 500,000 in student loans, right? they do NOT make money for several years...how much did the astros pay rick white and mike gallo? How about jason lane and mo ensberg?

As I have already explained, when the owners decide not to pay Arod or any other player, the player's union will accuse them of collusion. Its the natural progression of baseball lunacy. I agree with you that the owners should not Pay Arod or any other player these kind of contracts but it is a monster of their own making. They have had multiple chances to break the player's union power but have caved in each instance. The other pro sports owners survived wars and came out on top. Why can't MLB owners do the same? Because they are cluless and spineless. The NFL owners played scabs and the people came to watch them. After 4 games the players had no choice. The NBA almost did the same but came to a mutual agreement that lessoned the union's power but still keep relative salary structures. MLB owners just don't get it.

I agree with Dennis on his perspective of the situation between the owners, players union and fans
