Im wondering if we can start the season on a fresh note? Let there be arguments but im wondering if we can do away with some of the outlandish crap? Over the past three seasons we have had silly comparisons between so and so..Its usually Arod vs berkman or whoever. (example there) It doesnt matter what stats are thrown up because its just not going to make the other guys argument true in most cases...I think its clear cut arod is the best...Thats just an example of the crazy crap here.
Does it really matter who is better between vlad and berkman? The stats are pretty similar....Can we agree they are both capable ballplayers? Since vlad will not be helping the team, is it really important how good he is? Plus, im willing to bet the angels fans have a different take on who's better
These arguments migrate from one thread to 10 others and i think people get the point after 4 or 5 of them...We kid around but at the end of the day we are all capable of pulling the stats and seeing whats what...Home team fan or not its kind of silly to compare jr towles and arod isnt it?
im just as guilty and will work on it.......

I admit I get pretty bored with all the back and forth crap that has gone on, and as you say....for little purpose.
The best news is that the guy that caused most of the trouble has been banned so we dont have to put up with that. Vega has some strong opunions, but I dont mind that because he has a knowlege of baseball, unlike that other guy.

Stats are stats and only stats. Who knows what a guy would do if he were on the Astros or another team. Granted, a good player is a good player, but the opponent, weather, etc. on any given day can affect every pitch and play. Let's just all get along. Some people take this board way too seriously!

I'm used to old habits that are hard to break being the "Old Fart" around here. I love stats but not as a battering ram to compare or make a point. I've always felt that stats only show what a guy has done yesterday and like anything else (including my opinion) is just another fancy way to try to project (or guess) what a ballplayer may or may not do in the future. And, that is why I stress watching the ballplayer perform on the field daily because in that way, you get a better feel for what you might see from the guy the next day and I think from that perspective, the stat magicians take a back seat. The reason being is that in baseball, things change daily. Ballplayer may be nicked which will affect his hitting which is not going to be reflected in the stats until after the fact. The ballplayer may be affected emotionally by a death in the family - problems at home with the little wifey - pissed because he didn't get that big raise his agent promised he'd get - the weather - teammates he can't stand - getting sick with a cold, the flu, stomach virus, the runs, allergies...and god knows what else. So, you've got to watch the guy carefully everyday to see if there are any new anomalies in his playing ability. I might be wrong but that's the way I've always done it.

that's one of the reasons I never could follow stats maybe just me but I put what I could see in what was happening daily on the field, thus when Ensberg and Co. went south, what they did before meant squat and I no longer wanted to watch them play

Might be enjoyable, now, comparing the stats of this team with others.
