Loretta had a 3-1 count. We were ONE PITCH AWAY from getting our FIRSTrunner to third. Shucks.

Of course, it was semi-INT BB to get to Backe who K'ed on 4 pitches.

yep, but this year is bad also.
We have Berkman hitting third, he is going to start hitting in June, when this team is gone.

Berkman couldn't get out of his shadow last year, why the optimism about June?

Let's just hope that our hitters just ran in to excellent pitching the first 2 games this year.

On the bright side, Backe pitched well.

It's pretty silly to use two games as validation that Berkman/our lineup will suck, especially against great pitching in a tough ballpark.

South, you don't know how pessimistic most of this board is. You will have some of the most negative people as fans on this board. Berkman sure sucked last year. Even with a down year, he scored 95 runs 20th, had 34 homers 5th and 102 rbi 14th. I don't know why we didn't just release him with Woody.

You're damned right I'm negative about this team! What the hell have they ever done? NOTHING! Wow, they got to the WS once and got SWEPT! Last year they stunk up the joint. Berkman is a good player, but he has the emotions of Mr. Spock, which is to say, none. My problem with "Big Baby" Berkman is that he always says the same old sh*t and that gets old real quick when a team is not doing well. I want SOMEONE, ANYONE on the Astros to get pissed once in a while and call out the players who aren't performing. This crap about how they should keep it in the clubhouse is just that, crap.

fck..they faced the 2 best pitchers in the Nl last year...young was better than peavy until all star break....The offense will be fine.. i was a whole lot more concerned with how Backe pitched...he looked great...better than what i expected

I want SOMEONE, ANYONE on the Astros to get pissed once in a while and call out the players who aren't performing. This crap about how they should keep it in the clubhouse is just that, crap. Well I agree that the leaders of the team should be more vocal to the other players not pulling their weight, but I disagree that it should be done through the media. Keeping stuff like that IN THE CLUBHOUSE can be very important to the chemistry of a team. Good teammates do not throw their fellow teammates under the bus through the media. To me that is classless. Now getting on a player's arse that is not doing his job...darn right, that needs to be done but out in the open is not the proper way to handle the situation.
