I've been concerned for the past 2 years. I thought that we NEEDED TO TRADE him last year when he still had value. If he pitches 3 or 4 good games in a row, i would trade him FAST. Angels? / Go for it, Adenhart, Wood and another prospect. Yankees? / Hughes, Montero and another prospect. Arizona? ? 3 top pitchers in system? Dodgers? ?Kershaw? ? I think is time to move him when we can, improve our system and try and sign good pitchers next year. This year what is important is to see developement on: 1. Towles 2. Bourn 3. Pence 4. Wright See what Backe and Wandy can do. Try and re sign Valverde. See if Nieve can become an 8th inning guy. Trade Loretta and get a reliever that can pitch your 7th inning. Guys to trade: 1. Wiggington 2. Oswalt 3. Loretta

We never should have given up Wheeler for Wigginton in the first place. Lamb was a better hitter and no worse defensively.

Oswalt needs to be given a complete physical. There has to be something physically wrong with him because a pitcher like Roy doesn't get to be horsesh*t overnight.

I've been concerned for the past 2 years. I thought that we NEEDED TO TRADE him last year when he still had value. When he still had value? Wow... a few bad starts and there's no love for Roy-O. If Roy returns to form, there is no reason to trade him. He's a 30 year old ELITE pitcher in baseball who can still be the Astros ace for multiple years. If you trade Roy, then you are a team with no ace. Lets see how he does this year before we throw any money at him. Valverde hasn't proven that he can be an elite closer for more than 1 year in a row... he started off this season poorly as well. Loretta has little to no trade value. He's been a free agent the last few years and couldn't get a starting job on any team. You're not going to get anything better than we already have for him. Who is going to replace Wigginton? Blum? Blum is a career .251 hitter who started off the season hot... that's it. Wigginton is basically Blum with power. Blum may have a slightly better glove, but he's nothing to write home about. At least Wigginton is good for 20-30 home runs a year.

Wigginton is also good for more errors than home runs.

With our lineup, I prefer to have defense at 3b with a .250 averagte and a left handed hitter than Wigginton. About Loretta, the guy is a .297 career hitter, i believe an all star 2 years ago and can be a really good number 2 hitter in any lineup. Maybe Colorado could use the guy. Can Asdrubal Cabrera really hit? If not, Indians could use the guy hitting 2nd in that lineup. They have a lot of relievers in that system, plus, Marte that plays 3b? ?

Im not into all this decline bullsh*t..i think he is hurt...we arent talking about an old man here...we also arent talking about a 1 or 2 year wonder..we are talking about someone who is arguably a top 5 pitcher in baseball over the last several years.

With our lineup, I prefer to have defense at 3b with a .250 averagte and a left handed hitter than Wigginton. Blum over his career isn't much better than Wigginton on defense. And what little he is, isn't enough to make up for the 15-20 less home runs a season. If Loretta would be a good number 2 hitter in any lineup, then how come no team other than the Astros even wanted him last year, and no team would offer him a starting job this year. Loretta essentially signed with the Astros this year because he was going to get the most playing time here... as a backup. The only reason Loretta has seen the playing time he has with the Astros is because Matsui is hurt. im sold on blum so far...home boy can field and hit..he got robbed yesterday on that dive from jacobs.....he hit a rocket and got robbed He can field and he can hit... just about average. He's nothing special. Look at his career numbers.

Because signing him meant for other teams LOSING a draft player.
That is very important, IT WAS NOT FOR PURPURA, but it is very important for other organization.
Why lose a draft player if you can get him later on with a trade?

If he's a really good #2 hitter in any lineup... then any team would be happy to lose a draft pick to sign him.
Draft picks are a shot in the dark... most never make it to the bigs... there's no way that if Loretta was as valued as you make him sound, that he would be passed up in order to keep a draft pick.
