James had suggested that Crashtest do trivia threads and so far Crash hasn't chosen to do so. Anyone can contribute. Lamearm did great on the ones he supplied.

OK, Astros Trivia: What former Astro could get the biggest wad of tobacco in their cheek? I know that this is not serious baseball but what the hell. What smart ass on this board was shown on TV the night the Astros clinched the West in 1986?

As for the smart ass, that was Coach! ;D Texiban and I had seats in the upper deck together. I lost my damn ticket walking in the parking lot of the dome before the game. I walked toward the ticket office loooking to buy another ticket when 3 guys asked me if I wanted to buy a ticket. I said. "How much?" They said 5 bucks. My ticket was a 5 dollar upper deck ticket so I figured they had picked up my ticket in the parking lot since they had pretty much walked behind me the entire time. I agreed on the 5 dollars and one of the guys handed me the ticket. It turned out the ticket was 8 rows back of the 3rd base dugout. I had a dilema then. Was I going to leave my friend alone up in the upper deck wondering where the hell I was or was i going to sit in this great seat? You don't have to guess what I did. I took the f**king great seat. I drove home and Texiban comes over to my house thinking I had missed the game and proceded to tell me how great it was. I told him the story and Texiban was calling bullsh*t. This was in the days HSE replayed the games. Since it was a day game, this one came on again right after the game ended. Texiban and I cracked a couple of brews and proceded to watch the replay of the game. On the second out in the ninth, the camera panned the crowd and there I was on TV. At that point, Texiban finally believed I wasn't bullsh*tting him.

While we are on game stories. Texiban, do you remember when Keith was little and the 3 of us sat directly behind the Astros dugout when they were playing the Reds and 3 or 4 fights broke out between the 2 teams.

Wasn't that in like 95 or something when Bagwell or Biggio got hit on successive pitches and Drabek was pitching? No I wasn't there but I looked up that game recently. It was in September I think.

Bagwell did get hit that game. I think Pat Borders was the first guy to get in a fight that game.
Texiban and I kept egging the Astros players on with stuff like. "Man, ya'll aren't going to take that stuff are you?" Next thing you know, something would happen and they would all go flying out of the dugout.
It was Keith's first game. He kept asking if this happened every game.

My friend barry and I used to go to all the home games in the Dome back in the '70's...One night we had "upgraded to some sweet seats right behind 3rd base about 10 rows back and proceeded to have a great time, drinking beer and heckling the umps and other team, when this guy leaned over from behind us and said " those are not your seats"...We asked how he knew that and he said, " because this is my box, I have 12 seats"...we looked a little sheepish, when he said...I havnt had this much fum all season...He left us seats at will call for the rest of the year.....we never even found out who he was.

I think the tobacco wad award might go to Nellie Fox. He was a Colt .45 in '64 to stable pony Joe Morgan. I think he got the game-winning hit in the first game in the Astrodome against the Yankees. Sorry I haven't contributed more to the trivia threads. We've been pre-occupied moving into a new house and getting my son settled in Fort Worth.

OK, here's one for you. In 1977, this "poor man's" Dave Kingman -a VERY poor man's Dave Kingman struck out 45 times in 100 at bats for the Astros. I scored a game where he struck out for the cycle - on counts of 0-2, 1-2, 2-2 and 3-2, unfortunately, not in progressive order, that would have been TOO rich. (I wonder how many times THAT has happened in MLB history?). Anyway, who was this King of the K?
