so its agreed..they need to look forward to 08' They are 7 games out with 98 games to play and you want to write them off? Come on Hembo, make an intelligent statement. Have you not watched this team the last several years? They have come back from much bigger deficits than that. They have no chance for the wild card, but a good chance for the division title. Nobody in the Central wants it. I don't agree it is time to look at '08 at all.

so its agreed..they need to look forward to 08' No, as weak as the NL Central is at this time, the Astros still have a shot at winning it. However, we have to have another starting pitcher and some people need to start hitting for that to happen. Firing Purpura would be a good place to start.

How does firing Purpura get another pitcher and make the players hit better?

Sounds like everyone is on the same page just different paragraphs. The biggest problem confronting this team other than the lack of another starting pitcher and at least one more bat is Scrap Heap himself. He needs to get a lineup and stick with it for more than one game. I think if he would, you would see more consistent play out of these guys. Try this lineup just for grins: Loretta: 2nd base Pence: Center Field Berkman: 1st base Lee: Left Field Scott: Right Field Everett: Shortstop(Defense does count) Ausmus: Catcher(At least he does occasionally hit the ball) Pitcher

How does firing Purpura get another pitcher and make the players hit better? Firing Purpura and replacing him with COMPETENT GM makes it possible to improve the team. We already know that Purpura will hang on to garbage like Lane and Ensberg instead of geting productive players. Purpura is not capapble of making a decent move. It was stupid to sign Woody Williams to a two-year deal and trade Hirsch and Taveras for Jason Jennings. Jennings will probably move on and that means we gave away two decent players to get a pitcher with a fastball that tops out around 85 mph.

Barron, and Buch, former number 1 prospect of Astros with a fastball of 94 mph, a very good curveball and a decent slider.

I hope Timmy isn't taking any credit for signing Carlos Lee because Drayton did most of that himself. Of course, Draytie is also the idiot who OK'd the signing of Woody Williams. Timmy managed to trade Taveras, Hirsch, and Buchholz for Jennings. Together, Draytie and Timmy lost Pettitte and Clemens and replaced them with Woody and Jennings.......hell of a trade, don't you think? I got as sick of Clemens' act as anyone but he damn sure would be a better choice than Jennings or Woody in the rotation. We could have a rotation of Oswalt, Pettitte, Clemens, Sampson, and Rodriguez or Hirsch. Instead we get Roy, Sampson, Jennings, Wandy, and Woody. LOL LOL Great job, Timmy and Draytie.
