In the past we havnt done so well in trades....but for right now, we look pretty damned good seems to me.
Luke Scott, now hitting 264 chad Qualls...0-4..(still has a decent ERA) Patton...out for the year Lidge...still lights out in Philly
At any rate...those we got are currently outperforming those we traded away...at least for now

We made some good deals.......Tejada, Bourn, and Valverde. Signing Erstad was a very smart move. What we DIDN'T do was get enough starting pitching. So far, Chacon has been better than expected. We are winning in spite of our starting pitching. This must be addressed before the trading deadline if we have any hope of making the playoffs. Offense can carry you only so far.

JB...I completely agree with you...What I dont see is where we can get more good starters....What we want is what everybody wants....who is out there?...and who did we pass on in the off season?
One thing is for certain....Berkman will not continue to hit at a 648 clip...we still have 3 starters who are flirting with the mendoza line( Trowels will have to go on a tear to even get there)...For now I am quite pleased with our play(..pleased?...hell...I am stunned)..we do have to improve to have a chance...
Also, to my amazement, I am hopeing for the return of Wandy...I have this hope that he can pitch on the road this year...He has looked good so far...
who can we pick up?

I agree with you guys, i believe Wade has done a great job, lets see:
Valverde, we got a closer. We gave Qualls ( I like him) Burke (struggling) and Gutierrez (over 4 ERA at Triple A)
Matsui, great move, playing very good, outplaying Burke at AZ (not getting many at bats over there).
Tejada, well, that was a great move.
Chacon, working big time.
Right now the Lidge trade is not working because Bourn is not hitting, but we gave 1 player Costanzo to get Tejada.
Still, Geary is doing OK, but we need Bourn to be a better than average offensive player to have that trade be even.
So far i can say i am happy with Wade, finally we have a good GM because Purp was awful.

What the trades also brought us was some defense. For instance right now we as a team have given up only 7 unearned runs all season, lowest in the league.
Also we are leading the league in net stolen bases and the best in the league about preventing stolen bases ie given up the fewest steals.
The team batting average is below average but some guys are killing it. As they cool down the guys that are struggling need to find their stroke.
The team pitching is not quite as good as I thought it would be but really is not that bad all things considered. Someone in the minors needs to step up though as no one is going to trade us a good pitcher for a bag of oranges.

I keep thinking Nieve and Paulino will be ready to help later in the season.

Specifically Oswalt and Sampson have fallen short and I really did not think that Rodriguez would be the one to get hurt. My expectations for him were high and he has not performed due to injury.

Of course, i was expecting ASSwalt to suck, but not this much.
I see Zito winning his first game tonight thanks to ASSwalt, this guy is awful.

Well, the a$$h*le has already allowed 2 runs in less than 3 innings, i really dislike this guy, i think is overpaid and very average.

Players i don't like:
1. Wigginton, i think he is a bench player, i prefered Lamb any day but this was one of worse trades in Astros history, Wheeler ( a very good number 8 inning guy) for a guy that is not better than what we had in Houston.
2. ASSwalt, the guy is paid as a number 1 and is really a number 3.
3. Borkowski, no idea why we have him on the team, and even worse, how in hell cooper uses this guy on close games?
4. Other players, they are doing more or less what they are capable of doing and Bourn and Towles are rookies that will improve.
5. Cooper, the guy is awful.

I agree with you totally about Wigginton. I'd much rather have Lamb. Oswalt is just not the pitcher he used to be. I would have released Borkowski by now.

JBarron, imagine this team with Wheeler pitching the 8th inning.
Valverde 9 Wheeler 8 Brocail 7 Geary/Villareal 6
That would be one of the best IF NOT THE BEST bullpen.

Oswalt has been GREAT tonight, i hope he does not pitches the 9th, i don't want 120 pitches and then struggles vs the Rangers. Lets see Geary in the 9th.
