I just don't see Pence as being that great. He never walks, and Cooper likes to play him leadoff. He sucks most of the time! Today there is a right handed starter. Why not play Erstad? I think it is not a bad idea to play Bourn today. But why play Pence? Save him for late inning pinch hit situations and scare him into doing something by sitting his ass on the bench.

I think people saw last year's batting average and designated Pence a star. But even last year he had many chinks in his armor. I am from now on hoping the guy gets benched until he gets his act together. He is the youth part of our team and that all sucks sad to say. I don't have much good to say about any of them. We need youth that can play ball. Not that strike out swinging and get nailed on the base path constantly.

Pence needs to play every day and develop. Those with baseball knowledge realize this.

If that is the case then I just shouldn't believe my eyes and the statistics and pretend that Pence is getting better. Gosh, I am sorry, Pence has been playing lights out, he gets better every day that he is playing. I just hate at this rate to think where he might end up, maybe Ted Williams..............

Well, last year i said i was worried about pence lack of strike zone judgement.
I knew he was going to struggle to hit for average OR have a high OBP because the dude is TERRIBLE within the strike zone.

The Astros are too cheap to pay a quality hitting coach. I doubt if Sean Berry does much to help any of them. And, Dewey Robinson is a joke for a pitching coach.

I get on his case and he has a good night. It still doesn't change my mind. Pence, from hence until you get on a major hitting streak, you are pathetic. It takes more than one night to change my mind. Also I believe Tejada needs to get his ass in gear. In the meantime God bless my old friend Homer Sampson. He won that game for us tonight even if he didn't get the decision. I have hopes for Backe too. I just hope that they don't try to over work him. I believe that he is going to get blown out tomorrow. But I say that of everyone.

Sean Berry never was a great hitter when he played for the Astros. Maybe they got him because they were hoping that he would teach our youngsters not to hit like he could and not how to hit like Lance Berkman. I think we are looking to the future but not expecting the world to last too many more years. Is Drayton Mclane one of those that is thinking the apocalypse is about to happen? Meanwhile Backe had a good game, just like I said he wouldn't. Pence was 1-4 which is an average day for him. So he sucked exactly as I thought he would, but so did Erstad. At least he is getting more hits at leadoff than Pence. Maybe Wiggy would do well there probably better second. Matsui should probably be first or Bourne when he plays.

Sean berry wasnt a bad hitter with the Astros....but I dont thibnk that matters from a coaching standpoint. Ted Williams may have been the greatest hitter ever, but he was not a good batting coach. Charlie lau wAs a fabulous hitting coach, but I dont remember a thing about him as a hitter. Funny how that works

What was it about Sean Berry that we didn't like? Was it his fielding? I remember that we couldn't wait to get rid of him, maybe he was injured often. Anyway our worse problem now is pitching. It is really hard to make a judgement on Sean Berry.

Just because Pence has a good game doesn't mean that I am off of his case. He talks about working on his hitting. That is what I like to see.

I just remember many negatives. I have no idea if we talked about it on one of the old forums. It could have just been me.
