Backe probably needs to be moved to the bullpen as a middle reliever. I believe he'd do well in the roll. Considering he hasn't shown that he has the stamina to put in the number of innings required of a starting pitcher, that just might be what the doctor ordered for him.
Next, it's pretty obvious that the Astros donot have anyone long term to play 2nd base or shortstop.
Matsui has proven that he's too fragile to be an everyday player at 2nd base. As for Tejada, he showed exactly what I expected to see from him this year. An aging overpaid shortstop who has no range and whose offense continues to fall and will continue to. Tejada is probably closer to 40 years old than 35 and he's too overweight for a shortstop. McLane has some decisions to make concerning Tejada in the very near future. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Tejada is actually 40 years old or older.
And of course anyone who has been following the Astros at all this season knows that McLane, Smith and Wade have their collective work cut out for them trying to fill at least two roster spots in the starting pitching rotation. I'm still not sold on Bourn but he's young and has the ability to improve with more big league experience. The Astros are committed to Bourn playing centerfield. Of course, they don't have anyone else right now they can hang their hats on with respect to the centerfield position that requires someone with tremendous speed and who can at least exhibit some kind of ability to hit major league pitching.
Unless they decide to move the fences in at centerfield at Minute Maid Park the Astros have to have a Michael Bourn type speedster playing that spacious and deep area of the ballpark.
And finally, somebody needs to drug whomever is in control of the in-park sound system. He/she can't keep her darn finger off the sound effects button. You have to scream at the person next to you even between innings because of all of the outrageous background noise that plays continuously from the first pitch until the last out.

im not sold on those guys either..i think tejada is on the down side of a career and his range blows..having said that i do think he isnt the biggest concern..his bat is still better than any other NL SS outside hanley ramirez... Fragile doesnt carry a whole lot of weight as half the astros and most MLB guys are rather fragile
matsui is an exception...i dont think he has a full season in yet and he has been around a while
again, a lot of these guys wil lstay because theres no better options available
