According to the Chronicle and KHOU, Brandon Backe was arrested in Galveston last night for being drunk and disorderly and resisting arrest.

From what I am hearing, Backe was at a wedding reception at the San Luis and the Galveston BFD(Barney Fife Detail) came and told them that they were violating curfew. Someone in the wedding party popped a cop and it was on. How were they violating the curfew if they were on private property and not on the street? This just sounds like a typical over reaction from GBFD and it's "highly trained" staff of Barney wannabe's. These guys make Buford T. Justice look like a Texas Ranger by comparison! "What we have here is a total lack of respect for the law.(by Galveston PD)!

Well how in the world could they arrest the Backebone of the community just because he was overreacting in a wedding party. Anyway this Curfew fellow was in on it again. Poor guy is constantly being violated. Anyway glad no one was hurt. Proud of the police force though for being popped and not popping anyone.

I read a lot of the blogs on the attached site and it sounds as if a lot of the citizens of Galveston are not too happy with the Po-Po's down there. Hell Coach, you have to remember back in the day how jackassed the Galveston cops acted. I remember those a**holes waiting for people to leave East Beach just to see if they were driving with flip-flops or bare foot and giving tickets if you were!
The time is coming when there is going to be a revolt against the police state that is being created in this country and I think that Texas will be the starting point. I for one am sick and tired of these "Barney Fife" wannabes being entrusted with the public's safety seeing as how they are the main threats against it.
I remember how the police motto used to be, "To Protect and to Serve." Now it is either "To Patronize and Annoy" or "To Punish and Enslave".
And by the way, if Astrobuddy is reading this, this means YOU too, jackass!

Where did you see anything about Backe hitting a police officer? I agree that Backe sucks as a pitcher and I want the Astros to get rid of him but I didn't see anywhere that he hit a cop.

Hembo, read the article. Backe did not hit a cop. One of the wedding party did. Even so, why did Galveston's "finest" (yeah, right) have to show up like the Gestapo? I take it you have never had any contact with these shi*heads? Galveston PD is probably the least professional police force I have ever seen. They are even worse that Harris County Constables!
I know a Webster cop who used to be a Galveston cop and he's not that bad a guy, except he's a cop. He was let go to make room for a "minority" (black) cop as were several other guys in the early 1990's. This has led to nothing but trouble as the Galveston PD is under the civil service rules and they basically have a job for life no matter how incompetent they turn out to be.
Also the facts I am hearing are not coming from any of the people who were arrested, they are coming from the other people who were there. Galveston has a lot of lawsuits coming and personally, I hope and pray that they bankrupt the city and the officers involved. Galveston PD is the main reason I have not set foot on the island in over 4 years.
