And a 2 year contract? Purp should be fired.

Yeah, we pretty much figured that out a while back. Woody was a waste.

Woody should retire and give his money back.

Woody isn't a quality batting practice pitcher. What I don't understand is why Garner leaves him in the game so long.

GM's dont get fired behind a bad signing that the Owner probably signed off on.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, lets see:
Not signing Pettitte nor Clemens. Trading Hirsh, Buccholz and Taveras for Jennings. Letting Springer go. Not signing Bengie Molina. Signing Mohler and White. Signing Woody Williams.
ONLY GOOD MOVE, LEE.
Ohhhh, yipeeee, we have a great GM.
Ohhhh, and by the way, giving Biggio 5 million dollars, llllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooolllll.

I am not arguing whether Tim is a great GM. In fact I dont think he is. But what you fail to GET which you always do is DRAYTON RUNS THIS TEAM. Tim isnt going to get canned for decisions the owner makes.
Pettitte, Clemens, Molina and Biggio's $5 million arent Tim's decisions.

Theres probably a learning curve for owners but one would think after a decade + he would know... it doesnt matter if draytie signed off on these losers or not, as its easier to fire the GM as opposed to firing the owner. Someone will probably go and i bet its not drayton.
on that note..The only time i hear tal smiths name is in reference to that stupid azz hill in CF...This guy just collects a paycheck i think...Upper management deadweight
I disgaree with some of the above..i dont think jennings really paid off but he isnt horrible either.. somebody mentioned russ springer and i have to say that he is one of the worst ive ever seen...complete horsesh*t...

I've no problems with complaining about Purpura, he's shown that he deserves it, but I don't think you can criticize him for not signing Molina, unless you know for a fact that Molina would have signed with Houston and Purpura didn't want him. I'm also personally not going to jump his case for not signing Pettitte to the deal he wanted. I wouldn't have given that much guaranteed money to an oft-injured guy, either. 'Course, I wouldn't have signed Woody or Rick White, either. I certainly wouldn't have given Biggio $5m.

Jennings hasnt been horrible. Hirsh and Buchholz havent shown anything either. The Jennings deal doesnt look good at this point, but I give things time to play out.
Tim isnt going to be fired. Drayton does the Biggio deal and Drayton wanted another hometown boy and Tim went and got Woody.
Should Gerry have been fired for the Hidalgo/Abreau miss or Kile leaving or Clemens not accepting the trade to the Astros in 1998 when Gerry refused to give him an extension? Or not trading Alou and then Ward for Soriano? Or how about trading Wagner for trash?
GM's make moves, sometimes they work and sometimes they dont.

The best move for the money was signing Mark Loretta.

thank you baron.we agree then..at a pittance of the lee price...lee was a good deal but loretta came cheap..the guy is a lifetime .299 hitter and an all star in san diego and boston...I think the only reason he's playing now is that the papers started questioning why he and lamb were riding pine as garner kept sticking to that loser ensberg... the real problem will be when everett returns...i know most here have a little man love for everett but how do you sit lamb and loretta?
we have had this argument a million times now but offense is a bigger worry than defense at this stage of the season...
