houston.astros.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070705&content_id=2068603&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=houAstros right-hander Roy Oswalt won't need to win the National League Final Vote campaign to go to the All-Star Game after all. Atlanta's All-Star right-hander John Smoltz withdrew because of injury on Thursday and Oswalt, who finished behind the Braves' 202-game winner in the player vote, will take Smoltz's place on the NL team for the 78th All-Star Game Tuesday night at San Francisco's AT&T Park. Oswalt, 7-5 with a 3.52 ERA in 19 starts, is an All-Star for the third consecutive year. He pitched an inning at the 2005 Midsummer Classic at Detroit's Comerica Park and a scoreless inning last year at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old led the NL and ranked second in the Major Leagues with a 2.98 ERA last season. Oswalt won the Final Vote in 2005 and was running third in this year's Monster 2007 Final Vote campaign on MLB.com. Oswalt has recorded a dozen quality starts (at least six innings pitched with three runs or fewer allowed) this season and ranks among the top 25 in all of baseball in ERA, home ERA and strikeouts

Well, he doesn't really deserve it this year, but it's a sign of respect from the players that he's there.

He hasn't had an All-Star year but a lot of the time a guy gets rewarded for what he has done in the past. If Barry Bonds deserved to be a starter, Oswalt deserves to be on the team.

Every year Oswalt gets jacked around for the ASG and then ends up the year as the only pitcher with a 20 win season. Whoever said that the ASG is just supposed to reward players for the best 70 game start? Oswalt deserves to be on the All-Star team as much as ANY pitcher on the roster.

I thought for sure this would be Duckworth's year to shine at the ASG.

I thought for sure this would be Duckworth's year to shine at the ASG. I think Duckworth IS going to shine at the All-Star game. He's been invited there to shine all of the REAL pitcher's shoes.

I knew that comment would bring on another tirade from our little firiend 14ALL, who is still recovering from finding out his daddy is also his grandpa.
