The thought of trading Lance Berkman is just stupid as has been stated unless you just get a deal that you cant pass up.
Just stupid.
Now, having said that. IF the Astros think it will be 4 or 5 years till they are contenders again, then you trade Berkman, Lee and Oswalt for the best prospects out there and totally rebuild. But that isnt the case. They are building towards 2012.

Trading Berkman is NOT stupid. Actually, is stupid not to trade him if you can get a lot in return.

Alot? Meaning players you have no clue whether or not they will pan out?
Berkman is an elite player. He is having a down year. You dont trade away these kinds of players in their prime because of a down season for prospects who may or may not turn out to be even good players. Vega.. I know you are hung up on minor league stats and young players but their is NO guarantee regardless of what you think.
For the money Berkman is being paid he is a steal.
Should the Cards trade Pujols?

I'm guessing my post was 'not baseball'. I would have to agree.

Connor Jackson and Young are major leaguers and Collaspo has majorleague experience.
There you have this team in 2 years:
C Towles 1b Jackson 2b burke 3b lamb ss Collaspo lf lee cf young rf pence
Lineup:
1. Young cf 2. Burke 2b 3. Pence rf 4. Lee lf 5. Jackson 1b 6. Lamb 3b 7. Collaspo ss 8. Towles c 9. Pitcher
Rotation:
1. Oswalt 2. Patton 3. Backe 4. Sampson 5. Juan Gutierrez/Fernando Nieve
We are SCREWED here, we have no pitching.

contrary to what some think, i wasnt just bashing berkman(although everything i have said is true) but trying to say the astros have a lot of future issues.. They WILL NOT be serious contenders with what they have and i doubt draytie will sink anymore money into the mix...The depleted farm system has more or less made the astros a second tier team for the next 3 or so years....Why keep berkman? do you keep him for three more years and then trade him? Sooner or later they will in fact move him..whether it be when contract is expired or before, he will be gone...JB and I are right on this one..he constantly looks lost running the bases, he b*tches all the time, he isnt worth killing on defense...bottom line is you may have already seen the best years from this guy....
The astros dont need a guy making 15mil per year and b*tches every inch of the way(ie wagner) i would trade him for 3 or 4 known prospects... if the prospects work out great and if not what difference does it make as you need to replenish the farm anyways... I admit berkmans up potential outweighs the negatives, but i do think 4 prospects would be killer right now
