The Jennings trade ranks as being in the top three of the worst in club history. Jason Hirsch is better than Jennings by himself. Trading Hirsch and Taylor Buchholz for this bum is bad enough but giving Taveras away, too, was insane. Willy is hitting over .300 with at least 25 stolen bases for the Rociies. If Drayton doesn't fire Purpura, that proves he only wants a lapdog instead of a competent GM and doesn't care if we win.

Or it proves he hasn't learned a damn thing about baseball during the entire time he has owned the team.

All GM's are lapdogs.
This teams decline is Draytons fault.

Yep.. This is why I dont blame Purpura so much. What can he do? If Drayton doesnt get out of his way he cant do his job. Now I dont know whether Tim can be a good GM or not, but I dont think he had been given a real chance. If Drayton wouldnt let him offer arbitration to FA players then it is Draytons fault we lost all those draft picks.

Not denying anything bur he also offered Beltran 100 million, tried getting clemens etc...heres the problem as i see it..he will spend the money on the wrong damned people..They should have got Tejada, re signed jeff kent, traded 3 or 4 of the deadweight fckrs there now and matched the mets offer for beltran..I still believe had they kept clutch kent and beltran they would have won the Ws two years ago

Beltran wasnt going to sign here, period. The Astros offered more money than the Mets. He was never, NEVER going to sign here.
The Astros had a deal with Kent. He chose to go somewhere else.
The O's owner was never going to allow any trades. That team is more screwed up than the Astros.
I would have loved to have Kent, Beltran and Tejada. But it didnt happen and it isnt all the teams fault.

Im not going to argue with you over it but they made absolutely zero effort for kent and not much of one for Tejada. The kent one was expected. Biggio probably cried and kent was odd man out...It actually saved us all the horror of watching him play center field i guess...

hembo.. it is a well known fact that the Astros not only did make an effort but had a deal in place to be signed and LA came in late with an additional year and Kent went to the Dodgers instead.
When did the Astros have a shot at Tejada without trading Oswalt? You mean when he was a free agent in 2003? Explain....
The truth is... you cant just spend spend spend. But they do need to spend more than Drayton has. The dont need to try and have a superstar at every position. They just need to spread the money around a bit more.

That's not quite true, Hembo.
They declined his option, which was a mistake, and chose to negotiate with him. They had a tentative deal agreed to, and then LA swooped in and offered a 2 year deal. Houston ended up making another offer, but it was too late.
If they asked for Oswalt and the Astros walked away laughing, then you're right, that might not be much of an effort.

Not quite. The Astros have one of the best pitchers in the league locked up long term for a contract that is below market value.
