msn.foxsports.com/other/story/7124110?MSNHPHMAOfferman charges mound, hits two with bat BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Former All-Star Jose Offerman was arrested Tuesday night after charging the mound and hitting the pitcher and catcher with his bat during an independent minor league game. Bridgeport police said Offerman was arrested, but did not detail the charge. Police said he posted bond. Offerman, playing for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, homered in the first inning. The next inning, he was hit by a pitch from Bridgeport's Matt Beech and charged the mound with his bat. Offerman hit Beech in the hands and struck catcher John Nathans in the head. The game was delayed for about 20 minutes because of the melee. Offerman, Beech and Bridgeport manager and former major league pitcher Tommy John were all ejected. There was no immediate update on the condition of Beech or Nathans. Offerman batted .273 during his 15 seasons in the majors. He last played in the majors in 2005 with Philadelphia and the New York Mets. He was an All-Star in 1995 with the Dodgers and 1999 with Boston.

What makes you think that?

Just a wild guess! I always said that the baserunner should be allowed to keep his bat! It would make for an interesting game!
"Jones heading for second, Biggio gets the ball, Jones aims for the ball and takes Biggio's head off and is safe with a stand up double! Someone needs to hand Craig his head and help him off the field. Man, that looks like it hurt!"

So why wasn't Clemens ARRESTED the other day when he assaulted a batter intentionally with a thrown baseball. How is it any different?

It's all about the color crash. C'mon, you know that.

Remember when a minor league batter (of "color" - I think he was from the Caribbean) got hit with a pitch and then karate side-kicked the catcher before charging the mound? I don't recall him being arrested. There was also the incident, circa 1962, when Dodger catcher John Roseboro winged a throw back to the pitcher that came too close to Juan Marichal's head for his comfort so Juan wacked John over the head with his bat, opening up a pretty good gash on his forehead. Marichal was not arrested. I think Bert Campaneris also charged the mound with his bat and he wasn't arrested either.

sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/08/21/SPG74EB4GK1.DTLHere is a rather heart-warming report of the episode. A snippet follows, but please take the time to read the whole story: After Marichal had knocked down Maury Wills and Ron Fairly in the top of the third, Roseboro signaled for Sandy Koufax to retaliate in the bottom of the inning. It didn't work. "Koufax was constitutionally incapable of throwing at anyone's head,'' Roseboro wrote in his 1978 autobiography, "so I decided to take matters into my own hands.'' When Marichal came to the plate, one of Roseboro's return throws to Koufax whistled by Marichal's head. When Marichal complained, Roseboro squared off for a fight. Then ... pandemonium. Marichal was suspended for eight games and fined $1,750. Roseboro filed a lawsuit, asking for $110,000 in damages, but settled for about $7,000. He reportedly needed 14 stitches to close the wound on his head. The peacemaking process started when Marichal went to Los Angeles to finish his career in 1975. Roseboro, then retired, made it clear that he held no grudge, easing Marichal's transition into Dodger blue.
