Loretta at second
Ausmus at catcher
I don't want Ausmus either but I don't think they will get anyone else. I could be wrong though, they might move Ausmus or Everett because of their weak sticks.

If we could sign someone like Lowell and he put up close to his historic averages and then moved Wigginton to 2nd, we could keep AE at short and Ausmus at catcher and still have the 10-12 best offense in baseball. That is provided that Berkman returns to his normal production and everyone else produces at or close to their historic norms.
We need another starter and a reliever in the worst way. Our starting pitchers should be:
Oswalt ? Backe Sampson Rodriguez or Patton.

The guy barely started at AAA and everyone's ready to anoint him the 2008 catcher?
I have no problems with Scott in the lineup. I'd rather have Scott out there than have Burke at 2b.

I have no problem with scott, but right now he is our best option hitting 5th which is a BIG problem.
I have no problem with scott nor burke, but i think we need a better number 5 hitter if we are going to have a good offense, unless we can find a real good number 2 hitter and move Pence to 5.
I just don't like wigginton as a starting 3b, and scott, i see him more as a 6 hitter.
Burke will be good IF he is allowed to play, BIG IF.

I'll wait awhile before I'm willing to hand 3B to Wigginton. I haven't found him to be better than Lamb. And Hembo, I guarantee you that Lamb will be back if he wants to. I think he likes it here. The big problem is with the rotation. If we still have Woody in the rotation, we won't win. I trust we let Jennings walk because he sucks.
I'd give the 2B job to Burke, look for another power-hitting outfielder, and another catcher. I hope Ausmus retires. For anyone who thinks Munson should be the starting catcher, it won't work.

Lamb will stay if he's willing to accept a part time job and part time salary. I hope he does stay as he's a great LH off the bench. We just need a catcher to bridge the gap to Towles. Honestly Munson's not been that bad.
If we can upgrade over Scott, fine, but I think he'll be fine if he's left alone.

If Scott is not platooned and given the regular job, he'll give us 25 homers and at least 80 runs batted in.

Yep. Here's his numbers: .256/.357/.505 Here's Berkmans: .262/.373/.455
He's actually outhit Berkman when he's been in the lineup. I don't expect Lance to repeat those numbers, but I don't see why Scott couldn't keep that up. If he does that, we got a pretty solid core with Pence/Berkman/Lee/Scott.

I like Scott but not as number 5, we need a number 5 hitter in the lineup.

I sure hope so, but I have my doubts that berkman will ever return to form....Seems like whenever we have a player suddenly go south on us that he never turns around....Please let me be wrong here, but I can not think of one instance where a guy has turned it around.

it doesnt appear like there will be an 08 either...astros made yahoo's front page(sports) 'lose now, paid later' i have to admit i didnt know they leveraged so much for jennings and williams..to top all that i heard they couldnt sign and subsequently lost their top two prospects....may be a few years from competing
