we can all run to the stat book but who was the best you have ever seen play...theres no right or wrong answer here.. i had a family event recently and people were bullsh*tting about the differences in the baseball eras.. all the old guys were mostly unanimous about their favorite(mantle)but what struck me as odd is there were only two answers given as to who the best all round was..willie mays and stan musial.. my dads uncle said joe dimaggio and bill d*ckey..anyways... Im going to catch the man love thing here but Arod is the best ive personally seen play..theres nothing the guy cant do..right or wrong he is good

When I was a kid, I got to go to a double header at the Dome. The visitors were the Reds. The player that I thought was the best back then was Johnny Bench. Man, he made catching look like the easiest thing in the world. I decided I wanted to be a catcher. That lasted about 2 games when I decided that I would rather play either first base or outfield. (I ended up at first.)
I still think that Bench was one of the greatest. Next was Pete Rose. This BS with him being banned when you have douchebags like Ty Cobb in is ridiculous. I don't care that he gambled while he was a manager. I am looking at his achievements as a player.

Pete rose was a great hitter.....period.....strictly a one demensional player...he was a hotdog un parallelled...a shameless self promoter....damned sure could hit, but a crybaby like there never has been before or since...I dont remember the pitcher that ended his hit string at 48 games or somewhere in that area...ole Pete moaned to anyone that would listen...." they pitched me like it was the 7th game of the Worls series"....well suck it up Pete...just because they didnt lob it in, he thought he was robbed....even his nickname'Charlie hustle was stuck on him as a joke....I do agree the guy could hit however.
