May be too early to answer that question, but what are your thoughts? Is there someone in the minors who can/will take the torch from Biggio? Hunter Pence could be the new face of the Stros, if the organization decides to invest in him and tote his freight for the years to come. It is clear, at least to me, that Berkman does not want to be burdened with that role.

Honestly I would have thoguht it would be Oswalt and/or Berkman. I agree that it seems Berkman doesn't want it. Although now that Biggio has retired we may see one or both of them "emerge" as the elder statemen of the bunch. It could have been that Berkman didn't want to "steal" anything from Biggio while he was still here. I am mereley speculating though so go easy.
I would agree that Pence could be the next face. It could be too early to put that on a Rookie's shoulders though. If he and Towles and Anderson and Ransom are all on the Big Club next April then I can see a "Good Guys" turn into "Young Guns" type of thing. But a clear cut 'leader' or face has yet to emerge and I doubt you would put that on any of the young guys just yet.

Pence! He plays with enthusiasm and plays hard. His outgoing "Aw shucks, I'm just playing the best I can" attitude is also a big plus. He also doesn't seem to have the "I'm better than anyone else on the team" attitude which Bagwell and Biggio had and everyone seems to forget.

Ken's an expert on being the face guy. Ken's the face guy on the wrong side of the local gloryhole in Austin.
As far as the Astros go. The guys making the big bucks should be the ones carrying the torch. Lee, Berkman or Oswalt.

Berkman can't put down the Whopper long enough to be the "face" of the Astros. ;D

Ken can't put "the whopper" at the peep show down long enough to do much of anything either.

Coach likes to talk about facials and glory holes, during the off-season because that missing brick in the outfield wall of Minute Maid is his favorite "watering hole," and much to Coach's dismay the tattooed Mexican janitor on the other side of the wall has the whole winter off.

Hunter Pence will be the new face of the Astros. He is very close to Craig Bigigo and learned a lot from him on how to play and conduct himself. If Berkman is the new face, we are in deep sh*t. You don't want someone who pouts and drags his ass being the face of your team.

Jesus JB... A guy can do something 1 time and all of a sudden his entire previous 8 years goes away. It was a bad year.

Jesus JB... A guy can do something 1 time and all of a sudden his entire previous 8 years goes away. It was a bad year. What the hell does Berkman having a bad year have to do with Pence being the new face of the team? Pence busts his ass on every play........Berkman busts his ass only when he feels like it. Berkman pouts...Pence does not. Berkman runs like a prissy fag.......Pence does not. Pence should be the new face of the team. Berkman needs to spend the winter in the weight room instead of laying on the couch or playing golf.

True JB, Berkman just seems like to me that he's playing to cash a paycheck and nothing more. IMHO it seems like lately his heart really isn't in it.

Based on our record, I'd say very few of our guy's hearts were in it.
