Let's look at the managerial history in the McLane era.... [/color] Terry Collins -- no major league playing or managing experience Larry Dierker -- Astros legendJimy Williams -- little major league experience, record of 695-593 (0.540) as a manager before comong to the Astros. Phil Garner -- Astros legend[/ul] So, who follows Phil? A managerial retread, one with little major league experience? Followed then by another Astros legend? Ladies and Gentlemen, I submit for your approval, our next manager.... Jim Tracy. This quote from our friends at Wikepedia shows he's perfectly qualified to follow in the steps of Terry and Jimy... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_TracyNow... Who gets to follow Tracy? What Astros legend will be ready to be our Manager after next? The floor is open for nominations.

How about Tim Bogar for Manager? The former Astro infielder started his coaching career in the Astros farm system before moving on to the Indians. He is currently in his second year as manager of the Akron Aeros (Indians AA team). He was Manager of the Year in 2006 (Eastern League) and was an assistant coach at the Future Game this season.

Good thread, garyfan.
There's not telling which way Drayton would go.
I'm wondering if they might give Tony Pena a shot here. Tony's a coach for the Yankees these days.
Hell, Drayton could name Craig Biggio manager next year.

Nah, Coach, the next manager is going to be a player coach. Bradley Asmus. Uncle Dratie could save some money. Pay him manager salary instead of catcher salery. He'd like that idea. ;D

garyfan- I like you clever approach to this subject. ...but....and this is just my opinion here....I wouldn't consider Phil Garner an "Astros legend".

What, being a scratch hitter and average fielder doesn't make you an Astros legend? Knowing Draytie, he will probably name Bagwell manager just to sell a few extra seats. Actually, that might not be a bad idea. At least Jeff actually knows the game, unlike Scrap Heap. ;D

Don't be surprised to see Ausmus or Biggio become manager with the other one going to work in the front office. If Biggio is the manager, Ausmus will be the pitching coach with Bagwell as bench coach.

I liked the idea of Bogar, Tony Pena, or Cecil Cooper maybe with Jackie Moore brought up as the bench coach. But lets have a new GM make the move because do you really want Tim deciding?? So maybe we should ask who should our GM be, yes I wish it was Hun..

You're probably right but if the facts don't fit the theory, the facts must be changed. Here's a shot out of the blue.. Billy Hatcher. He's currently first base coach at Cincinnatti for the Reds. Maybe he should be hitting coach, at least..... Even Adam Everett could reliably hit the Crawford Boxes with a corked bat. (Oh, I forgot it was Dave Smith's bat.) I'm not sure Biggio is manager material. Love the guy but he just doesn't seem a fit. He is the one guy that could definitely out-cliche Jimy Williams, though.

i don't know if Biggio or Bagwell are manager material. i don't mean to imply that they aren't, i just don't know. but Brad Ausmus would be a great manager

and what make Ausmus a great manager when he has never managed a game. Same as with Biggio and Bagwell, that being said I would like to see one of those three over Garner at this point. Sometimes Garner only plays by the seat of his pants and when you dont have good players it never works out

the fact that he went to an Ivy League school and that he plays a position that requires in-depth knowledge of all game aspects.
