The main thing that MUST be done in the off-season is to restructure the pitching staff......starters and bullpen. Oswalt is the only starter who should start next season guaranteed a job. Woody is looking good in his last three starts but I'm not ready to say he's a sure thing for next season. Jennings needs to be let go. Backe should be back in contention for a starting job. I wouldn't hand him a spot in the rotation because he's never proven to be consistent. We need to sign a couple of free agents to bridge the gap until guys like Patton and Gutierrez are ready. I think the guy who may surprise us and really step us is Albers.......he certainly has the stuff to do it.
As for the bullpen........Lidge, Qualls, and McLemore are the only ones I consider to be keepers. I've seen more than enough of losers like Trever Miller and Dave Borkowski. A couple of new relivers need to be signed........preferably a quality left-hander for one of them.
After the pitching is taken care of, get a quality catcher.........Ausmus needs to go home and surf.
