That doesn't mean they weren't competitive.

Drayton offered up some big money to Beltran knowing he wouldn't accept it because he wouldn't include a no-trade clause. Just another way Draytie has of trying to make the fans think he did something when he had his butt covered all the way. He had no intention of signiing Beltran. He signed Lee because of all the hell he caught by NOT signing Beltran.

JB, thats just crazy. The No Trade clause issue came up just hours before the deadline.
Your constant black helicopter theories about Drayton are silly. He made a market offer to Beltran. Beltran was never going to sign here no trade clause or not. Borass has him bound for NY. I for one am glad we didnt sign Beltran. Beltran isnt a $17 million per year player.
If Drayton never had any intent to sign Beltran he looks like a genius.
I think it is funny how certain people have been all over Berkman and how maybe he is done or headed down hill and how he is having a bad year and he sucks etc etc .... and those same people whine about losing Beltran and guess what... Berkman's hitting stats are almost identical to Beltrans hitting stats. Just food for thought.....

I keep seeing that Houston is a football town and not a baseball town then why the hell did the Houston old franchise have to move to Tennessee because of lack of support. So I would have to think support is based on winning and losing more than it being a Football town VS a Baseball town

They didn't move out because of a lack of support. They moved out because Bud Adams wanted a shiny new stadium after he had murdered the Dome.

ifs that the case I stand corrected. But I still say support depends on Winning and Losing.

how has it worked out for the yankees? you cant be serious? Who wants a piece of this? jb? coach, chandler, vega? AB wants to know what a huge payroll buys...i am betting anybody that wants some that the yankees have been a better team over, say , the last decade...who's in?

ab..you finally got yourself into one that will be absolutely IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN LMFAO...the yankees have had more post season glory in the past decade then the astros have in franchise history....how many world series do you think the astros have won? i think the yankees have snuck a few in there...this is w/o a doubt going to be one of the most lopsided arguments on this boards history...rethink what you said

I think his point is, since 2002 the Yankees have spent like a billion dollars on payroll, about 3 times as much money as the Astros, and they have exactly as many WS appearances (1) and WS titles (0) as the Astros do in that time frame. Just spending the most money doesn't guarantee anything.

btw..i sure as hell like the yankees chances as opposed to your astros..they're 3 back in the wild card...how many back are the astros?

So when they're losing, they're 'your Astros'?
Considering they're spending like $120m more on payroll than the Astros, they should be in contention, right?

gary the only one they offered serious money to was beltran. the astros have let a lot of guys go they should probably have kept I give him props for getting lee but thats one guy he has paid big money to in, what, 13 years of owning the team... Free agents..... Let's see, off the top of my head there's Drabek, Swindell, Alou, Kent, Pettite, Clemens. Some worked out, some didn't but Drayton went into the FA market to get them all. That doesn't include the Astros that got FA money to keep them from being Free Agents... Bagwell, Biggio, Berkman and Oswalt fall into that category. This may not be the most impressive list in the MLB but it's a lot more than one or two players.

Hembo... I just figured it out. You think things just ARE. It doesnt matter what the facts are.
Here is an example.... Jeter just IS a better hitter than Berkman. Even though the facts dont support that. OR.... Beltran just IS a better hitter than Berkman... Same thing... NOT TRUE. OR Arod must have a higher career OPS than Berkman... That also isnt true. That whole bogus list of players you just believe are better are NOT in fact better. Its media hype myth. You are exactly what you are accused of being... an ESPN zombie.
Then we have well... THE YANKEES... Wow.. They must have had better success in the playoffs than the Astros... Well, yes, if you go back far enough. But like I said... If you start with the $200 million payrolls the Yankees havent gotten any further than the Astros. Exactly 1 WS appearance and no win. It is just what Chandler said it is... Since 2002.
Thats my point. Since the Yankees signed Arod and went crazy with payroll they havent won sh*t. FACT.
SO no, you are on your own on this one. Go get facts or stay out of the fray. Your opinions have been proven wrong over and over and quite frankly if I want to hear anymore childish baseball hype with no substance I will just turn on ESPN. Have a good take with good facts or dont waste my time.
