lidge and qualls are good, after that we have next to nothing. And we trade Wheeler for ANOTHER 3b? / Is a pity Purp was NOT fired before the trade.

Too bad Purpura wasn't fired before he gave away Taveras, Hirsch, and Buchholz for Jennings.

agree, or before we could re sign beltran. I don't think it would have mattered if Donald Duck was our GM in the case of Beltran. We were used to up the ante from the Mets. Borass wanted the Yankees but they would not take his calls. As for the Jennings trade, I agree that Pupura just screwed that up after he screwed up the negotiations with Pettitte.

Beltran wanted to play for the Astros or Yankees, not the Mets. Just because his wife said she liked it here, did not mean that Beltran himself wanted to be here. If you factor in the tax situation in NY as opposed to Texas. Beltran would have made about the same if he signed here by what was being offered at the time. You don't bring up a no-trade clause in the 11th hour if you want to sign with that team. That is something that would be brought up early in any negotiation unless you were trying to torpedo the whole thing. Which of course, Borass was. It has been reported that Borass was calling the Yankees every step of the negotiations with the Astros and the Yanks said, stop calling. The Mets were the next closest to the Yanks being that they both were in NY and on the big stage. Which is what Beltran wanted anyways.

Noooooooooooooooooooo. Actually, i see it different. The no trade clause is a clause used BY ALMOST all of the star players. So, Boras asking for that at the last minute is no biggie because is a claused used by almost ALL STAR players. Do you know that Berkman and Oswalt have that clause? ?? Beltran himself TOLD me he wanted to play for the Astros. It was a mistake by management and not Beltran.

Beltran himself TOLD me he wanted to play for the Astros. I am sorry, I did not realize that you were such close personal friends with Beltran. I am sure he, as all players , are very truthful when talking fans. They would never tell a fan what they wanted to hear. Players have nothing to fear when speaking their minds. No fan backlash when they say that they want to leave a fan's team. Come on, Vega, are you that naive? As for all players, it seems to me that you ask for everything you want in the first exchange of proposals when entering a negotiation. If there is a real deal-breaker, and you really want the deal to consummate, then those things would be up front and in the original proposal. Not brought up in the 11th hour. I know Berkman and Oswalt have no-trade clauses. What exactly does that have to do with Beltran? I am sure that Berkman and Oswalt's agents had the no-trade clauses up front when they negotiated their extensions. Why would they do that? Because it was a deal-breaker and they both wanted to stay with Astros.

vega- I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I've always had this idea that you believe what a person does and not what they say. In other words, action speaks louder than words. If Beltran really wanted to stay in Houston he would still be in Houston.
I have come to the conclusion that Beltran is not only a helluva ballplayer and a great outfielder, he is also a helluva liar.

Agree. Boras and Beltran used us like a tool. We can't hang this one on Drayton.
Nor can we fault him for refusing to deal with Boras again. (FYI, Boras is Willy T's agent - which may have had something to do with his availability.)
