Why are we wasting playing time on this guy? If a 31-year old rookie fits into our plans at SS, then, we have a bigger problem than I thought. Bruntlett should be getting ALL of the starts at SS while Everett is out.

Ransom will likely outhit Bruntlett, plus he's as good or better defensively.

No, *you* have never heard of him. Plenty of people that are informed actually have heard of him. He was a hotshot SS prospect for the Giants a few years ago, never could break past Vizquel, so he's floated in the minors. This year he started hitting the ball with authority. People that have watched him play this year in the minors suggest strongly that he's a better SS option than Bruntlett.

There's a decent chance he could be a useful utility guy next year as he has some pop in his bat and can play several positions well. He's like bruntlett with more power.

This is the time of year we see what Ransom can do... is he a prospect for back up SS and a utility guy in 08. We know what Bruntlett can do -- he's a hanger on, just barely good enough to make a ML team.

Ranson may be getting a look because the Astros have no one to play 2nd next season.
Burke aint it.

Agree with you there. I'd rather have Loretta at second while we wait for the right guy to come along. At least he'll get some hits.

Loretta has proven he can hit when playing part-time. The longer he stays in the lineup, the lower his batting average falls. He is also no gem with a glove, either. He isn't the answer as a full-time second baseman. The closest thing we have to one is Burke.
