Astros owner Drayton McLane, interim GM/consultant Bob McLaren and president of business operations Pam Gardner met with Wade on Thursday morning at Minute Maid Park. He is the only one of the 11 candidates who was brought in for a second interview. Wade was the general manager of the Phillies from 1997-2005. He started in the Phillies' organization as the player personnel administrator and also served as assistant general manager. Wade isn't a stranger to the Astros' organization. He served as the club's public relations director in the 1980s, before moving on to the Pirates in the same capacity. Wade beat out 10 other perspective candidates, including three former GMs -- Bob Watson, Jim Beattie and Dan Evans -- as well as seven who are currently serving in an assistant's capacity: Ruben Amaro Jr. (Phillies), Logan White (Dodgers), Dave Gottfried and Ricky Bennett (Astros), Steve Lubratich (Indians), John Mozeliak (Cardinals) and Muzzy Jackson (Royals).
