When you come right down to it, I really have no opinion one way or the other. We'll find out what he's made of next season. What will be important is how he handles the young players on the 25 man roster now that the "Icons" will be out of the picture.

I agree, James. I trust he will try to keep the upper brass from re-signing dead weight like Orlando Palmeiro.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, but we sure have a LOT of number 4 and 5 starters in our staff. Ohhhh, and relievers? ??///// Where is Springer? ?// Wheeler? ??/ Do we have aleft handed reliever? ??///

Clemens will probably be retired and wouldnt have been here anyway.
Pettitte... well.. based on his year they got that one wrong. But who knows. Neither him or Roger were coming back here anyway. Just like Beltran. Who still hasnt been to the WS. Which he would have done in Houston and may have even won the damn thing.
Wheeler... well.... he is in Tampa 1-8 with a 5.38 ERA.
Springer.. well in 2007 they got that one wrong. But who knows what he will be like in 2008.
This team is going to get younger and faster.
But how on earth can this team not win with Chris Burke starting at 2nd base? Right?

I expect the smart baserunning, hustle, and dedication of Baby Huey.....er, Lance Berkman to spark this team to greatness.

If Berkman even has a shot at the HOF, he's going to have to work harder than he does now. He needs to lift weights and stop running like a prissy little sissy.

See JB... Thats the problem. They dont give style points. But thats why players like Vlad and Pujols are thought of by some as worlds better than Berkman. They are flashy and Berkman isnt. He just hits.
Runs like a prissy sissy? He is fat? You are fat, Berkman isnt. He doesnt run like a sissy either. He just runs funny. Pence looks like a goober a d NOTHING he does looks good. But he just hits.
Perception JB, its all perception. But when you look at the stats, all of them Berkman is an elite player and can make the HOF if he continues to have a career like he is having. I doubt he makes it, but to say he cant is silly.

Cooper would not have been my first choice but he seems to be doing a good job so far and is letting the kids play. It certainly helps us see where we are for the off season and possible trades/acquisitions.
As far as Berkman being a hof. Well three years ago no one thought much about Biggio getting into the hof. Now he seems like a first ballot inductee given his tenacity. If Berkman plays another 8 years he projects out to 500 hrs, 1500 rbis, and a 295 average.
All I got to say is that those are hof numbers but only marginal hof numbers. He better learn what a salad looks like and become very familiar with the weight room if he is going to make it. Can he do it, sure it would be foolish to think that it was impossible. Will he, I do not think so, I think he will play out his contract and call it a day.

Mike, I have to disagree, 3 years ago i had Biggio over Alomar, now i have alomar because Biggio played for too long giving bad numbers for 3 years.
Before i had Biggio top 5, now is top 10 at 2nd.
