I hear that they have an offer on the table to keep Ausmus around for another season. That's kind of lame if you ask me. We need more production form the catcher than what we have gotten from Brad. I like him but it is time to move forward instead of standing pat.

Most everyone around here wants to keep him but I'd just as soon move on too. It's not like he is a premier defensive catcher these days.

They've offered him a deal to come back as a backup to help mentor young Towles That's not a bad plan at all.

Ausmus would be a good bench coach/pitching coach/catching coach and would still be one of the better back-up catcher's in the league. It seems there have been stretches the past three seasons where you look up and Ausmus has the best offensive stats over a two week period. If resting allows him to retain flashes of that "consistency" he'd be a terrific back-up. I just hope the Cooper manager thing doesn't screw things up for Brad to manage here. He's gunna be a fine one, probably better than Cooper.

I don't think that Ausmus would manage here. From everything I've heard, he wants to go home to San Diego and hang with Bags.

Assuming Towles is the starting catcher, where would we get a better back up than Ausmus?

I like the idea of keeping Brad as a mentor and backup catcher as long as the offer on the table is not too much money. How much money does one really offer a backup catcher anyway?? Anyone heard rumors or facts of how much the 1 year offer is for??

Brad likely won't cost much, and having him back there to tutor young Towles could ONLY help Towles. Hopefully he'll transition from a backup to a bench coach type of role.

now that i can agree with...i see ausmus around forever in some capacity
jb..what difference does it make? Bring up some other dude from wherever and let them compete...They cant really be that much worse than whats currently being fielded... I can tell you this..I dont think any player on the team(outside berkman and lee) should feel they have a guaranteed job...They're not good enough to waste time and games trying guys out...yes, towles defintely needs to start the season or play half anyways, but there are several positions on this team that need work and catcher is one of them...Who is next on the depth chart? f**k it..bring him up as well...Surely he could replace some of the deadweight currently tying up a roster spot?

Speaking of dead weight taking up a roster spot......I trust we've seen the last of Orlando Palmeiro.
