This guy is pitching another good game. Probably will be 3 and 2 after today. I was watching his game (better than watch the astros, really) and the guy was throwing his fastball at 91-94, very good curveball and a slider. Only 1 mistake, to Bonds, of course. He is winning 4 to 3 against Lowry. 6 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks and 4 Ks So, we gave a guy that throws 92-94, with a great curveball and a good number 3 pitch ?

A guy that had a bad year last year and overall is not having a good year this year PLUS a lot of people are concerned that he's a ticking time bomb with injury concerns.

he is pitching very good lately.
Now, line is 7 innings, 6 hits 3 runs 0 walks and 5 K's
And i disagree, before he got his finger injury he was pitching very good, after that injury his curveball was non existent.
I think he did good for a rookie and believe astros made a mistake on this kid.
Well, many people are concerned about injuries, well, so far the ONE that is injured is Jennings and believe me, no way astros sign jennings to multiyear contract with that elbow.
So, trade is one of worse made by astros in history.

IMO it's way too early to judge that trade, especially to use the terms you use. Let's see how Jennings does with more than just 2 starts before calling it a failure.
Besides, had they not made the trade, this team would still not be going anywhere.

noooooooooooo, but the future would look brighter, thats for sure.
By the way, Buch will not win (eventough he pitched a great game) thanks to the bullpen, why? Because Bengie got a 2 out single to drive the tied run, yes the catcher I WANTED but Purp did not, the gm wanted Ausmus, STUPID MOVE.

Both of the guys we traded to the Rockies are better than Woody.

I thought the finger injury wasn't until around the All Star game.

after the injury he was unable to throw a sharp curveball, he was throwing more fastballs and sliders, he lost his curveball.
Today he had 3 very good pitches.
A guy that throws 94 with some movement, great curveball and good slider, no way i trade that.
For instance, Albers has that kind of fastball, and an ok slider, nothing else.
I think Buch is better than Albers. Actually, i think Buch is better than Wandy and probably will be better than Sampson and Backe.
I think the trade was a BIG mistake, lets hope i am wrong but i will not root against Hirsh nor Buch because i like both.
Hirsh, number 1 prospect for Astros, top pitcher in the minors for the past 2 years. Buch, number 1 prospect for Astros before injury.
Incredible how Purp trades that kind of talent for anumber 3 starter and 1 year contract.

But when was the injury? Everything I've found said that the injury was around the All Star break. If so, he started pitching poorly a LOT sooner than the All Star break. From May 10-June 5 in 4 of his 6 starts he allowed 8 er or more.
Hirsh was the top prospect at the *beginning* of the 2006 season, vega. THose lists, which are only opinions (not facts my friend), do change. I'd bet you a beer at an Astros game that Hirsh would NOT have been the top prospect for the Astros in 2007, and even if some guy would have had that OPINION, that doesn't make it a fact. I've seen em play, and no way would I have ranked Hirsh above Pence or Patton.
When Buchholz was our #1 prospect, that was BEFORE his shoulder injuries. He was not the same caliber guy in 2005-2006 that he was in 2004 and before. Plus, we didn't have a lot of good pitching prospects in the upper majors back when Buchholz got the nod. They thought he was close to being ready when they got him from Philly, then he got hurt and they had to shut it down.

no because Hirsh would be in the majors in 2007.
But, IT IS A FACT that Hirsh was top pitcher in the minors in 2006 and 2005.

Nah, just an opinion my friend. Give me Patton over Hirsh any day of the week.

And sorry, but i can SEE why Buch was a number 1 prospect, a guy throwing 94 with movement, a very very good curveball and a good slider? ? If he was EVEN BETTER than that before the injury, then he was another Oswalt.

So he was not VOTED as best pitcher in 2005 and 2006??? Those are facts, sorry.
