Like i said earlier..they need to approach bedard and Tejada...how about those guys in a lineup? bedard 13-5, 182 inninings,221 k's, 3.16 era, 1.09 whip Thats tough..... The fact he only allowed 3 runs a game and had a whip amongst the best in baseball, shows what kind of team he played on...This guy outpitched everyone in pro baseball(other than peavy) He outpitched beckett and sabathia

There does seem to be a pattern. Player does great at his former team, then comes to the Astros and stinks up the joint. WTF I personally think that it is because the 'stros are trying to hard to be the "good guys". There is no room for "good guys" anymore. You can still be a decent individual off the field, but when the balloon goes up on game day, you need to be a ruthless son of a b*tch! ;D Look at Beckett, Schilling and the entire BoSox lineup. Nice enough people off the field, bastards while playing giving no mercy and expecting same. The Astros can learn some valuable lessons from them.

By most other organizations, the Astros are considered to be a bunch of choir boys who lack the toughness to do what it takes to win championships. All that "root for the good guys" sh*t does is encourage that perception. Free agents who want to win will not come here because of that. We got Carlos Lee......a great hitter.......but this guy is laid back and lazy and knew that the Astros had no players who would get on his ass when he didn't hustle. Berkman is also laid back, lazy, and has no leadership qualities that you look for in a good player. I wish we had some guys like Matt Holiday, Jason Varitek, etc. who will bust their butts to win.
I've always felt that Tim Purpura botched the negotiations with Andy Pettitte and that's why he went back to the Yankees. I also feel that both Pettitte and Clemens knew that Draytie is more interested in just being competitive and selling tickets and merchandise than he is in actually spending the bucks needed to win the World Series.

You know that how?
Pettitte was telling friends long before negotiations even started that he wanted to go back to NY.

How do you know this? Did Pettitte confide in you personally?
I know the Astros are considered to be wimps and choir boys because we have never had a history of retaliating when our key hitters are hit by opposing pitchers. I've seen players in the opposing dugout laugh at the Astros when one of our guys were hit because they knew we wouln't do anything about it. Drayton is always talking about his fine, clean-cut young men......which is nice if you are winning. I want players who are good citizens in the community and don't look like trash like Manny Ramirez, but, I also want players who have some guts and will do whatever it takes to win.
Chandler, unlike you, I don't think any player in an Astros uniform is bound for the Hall of Fame. I'm glad you always insist on painting a nice picture, though. I know what I know the same way you do..........from what I see and read. I'm sorry you haven't paid better attention to the obvious.

How do you know this? Did Pettitte confide in you personally? No, it was pretty widely reported on the 'Net last winter that after Pettitte went to a benefit dinner honoring Joe Torre in late October 2006 he came back and told a lot of people he was going back. No, you don't *know* that, you just assume that. The Astros have done plenty of retaliation. Just off the top of my head, this season Braun got hit twice in a game following an incident where he showboated a HR. Yes, heaven forbid that a player might *look* like trash, that would be the end of the world. God forbid JB's delicate sensibilities get offended with regards to the looks of a ballplayer. Who cares if a player can hit .400 or slam 60 HR a year, if that player dosen't fit JB's perception of what a real baseball player should look like, then he worthless. I hope you really don't believe that's what I think. If so, then YOU really need to pay more attention Just because I don't spend my days whining about McLane being cheap (thus ignoring the facts) or griping about the team not throwing at enough opponents, that doesn't mean I think this is the 27 Yankees and we're about to go 162-0. No, I know things that I've seen, read about, heard about, researched. You 'know' what you think you know because that's what your perceptions tell you should be true, facts be damned.

Yes, I think that a baseball player should look professional and long dreadlocks on a baseball player looks like sh*t and it should not be tolerated either by the organization or MLB.

Barron, I agree with you, Pettitte is not an AStros thanks to Purp.

barron has a legit point. I don't understand why the Astros don't get an attitude. They had one when Ryan, Scott, Hatcher, etc. were here. You hit one of our players back then and the next time that pitcher came up to bat, Ryan would put a 100MPH fast ball under his chin! The Astros players did not get plunked that often because the opposing team KNEW what would come next!
