Bourn batted .277 as a rookie this year with one homer, six RBIs and 18 steals.
Geary was 3-2 with a 4.41 ERA with the Phillies.
Costano, 24, batted .270 with 27 homers and 86 RBIs at Double-A Reading.

Hard to find out anything about Bourn's arm. Speed - great, plate discipline - very good, only 24. Sounds good. We have a lead off hitter.
the rest of the trade seems to be backround noise. What this trade really does is set the outfield for years to come. That is barring injury or other unforseen issues.
We now have some added trade bait in Einerston and Iorg.

Sounds like a good trade for both teams. Now, what do we do for a closer? My guess is that this is just the beginning of moves Wade plans to make to reshape the Astros roster. Maybe he plans to go full-speed after Francisco Cordero to be the closer.

that new guy from Denver has the inside track....I wonder however....Pence moves to right....does he have a good enough arm to play right?

Ehh...RF is his 'natural' position.

Hunter Pence does not have the arm for right field but neither did Berkman when he played there.
As far as the trade goes, I don't think we got much in return for what we gave up. We got an unproven centerfielder.
What's with sports management in Houston.
Van Gundy was always bringing in Knick players
Kubiak and Sherman are always bringing in Packers and Broncos.
And now we got wade bringing in Phillie players.
Branch out, people.

Management always goes to the places where they are comfortable. But you are right Coach, they need to branch out. Kind of like redneck family trees! ;D

If Wade signs Francisco Cordero, it will make this trade look better. I have a feeling he thinks he has a good shot or he wouldn't have traded Lidge so quickly. Bourn can lead off, patrol CF, and doesn't cost much. Geary may be a quality middle relievr. The other guy can go to Round Rock and help replinish the farm system that Purpura and Hunsicker helped to destroy. This trade also means we don't spend big bucks on a CF and can afford to spend more money on upgrading the pitching staff and signing another power hitter.

Chandler...I knew his "natural "position was right...but I was a bit afraid of his arm in center...in right, I am very concerned...
In the end I always wonder about what we get in return for star players...all we got for dierker was Sipio Spinks....all we got for Cedeno was Ray knight....in the end, they were fair trades and all the market would bring....same with lidge
In another thread, the lack of "killer instinct'...was cited...and very true. I remember when the Dodgers were on top...and the way they did it was shipping out star players just a bit past prime, or about to be there and getting great young players for them...pity we never did the same.....When we wait to get all we can out of someone, those last years are not productive, and we get nothing, or very little in return....of course...we DO get to call ourselves a "class" outfit

I'll trade "class" outfit for "World Series Champions" anyday! Anyone who says otherwise is not being honest!

Can one of you convince me that Bourn's stats show he is ready to be our leadoff hitter. I'm missing something. One day, we're possibly getting Hunter and the next we get Bourn. That's like being promised steak and settling for a hamburger. I remember last year feeling the same way about Jennings stats when told he was the savior.
