I agree. Closers are a figment of a perverted strategy that dates back to Bruce Sutter. They are absolutely the most over-valued player on the team. There may rarely be two or three in the league that dominate, but you can pretty much shake a tree and have a "closer" fall out. Sh!t, we had Todd Frickin' Jones as a closer back when the Bronze Statues were rookies and he was the closer for the GD Tigers in the GD WS last year. Wagner -- gone, then there was the indispensible Blotel ---- gone, then there was Lights Out until FecalOrifice put one into orbit.
Truly, the thing to do is to capitalized on the stupid fascination GMs have for closers and pillage someone's roster by trading Lidge to them. It would be optimal for the club.
