Vega, I recall scanning an article about Robert Stiehl a couple of weeks ago. If I recall correctly, the article said the Astros released him. Wasn't he the 1st round pick that was converted froma catcher to a pitcher? I remember thinking he was a big risk for a first round pick.

He was our #1 pick in 2000 and received the 2nd largest signing bonus in club history to date. He's had severe injury issues. Since being drafted, he's only pitched 218 innings (not counting 2007) in A ball. I hadn't heard he had been released, in fact he was up in Corpus last time I went to a game (couple weeks ago).

It looks like I mis-read whatever article I saw. He appears to still be on the Hooks roster.

Drafted - Selected by Detroit Tigers in 34th Round (1017th overall) of 1998 amateur entry draft (June-Reg) ... Selected by Houston Astros in 1st Round (27th overall) of 2000 amateur entry draft (June-Reg)
Yes, he was a catcher and now is pitching. First he was a starter, now a reliever.
Last year he struggled at HIgh A, this year he is pitching very bad with a whip almost 2.
I don't think he has any chance to help the astros in the future.

Well, to be honest, he's not been in A ball for 7 years totally because of suckitude. Like I said, coming into this year, he had 218 innings under his belt in those years. He's been hurt more than Griffey.

He is pitching at double a this year for the first time.
I don't think we should count on him.

10 games, 15.2 innings, 7.47 era, 1.91 whip, 10 ks, 11 bb, and a .307 batting average against. Yeah, I'd release him too. Looks like he was never able to overcome the injuries. He looked really good coming out of college. He would catch the first 8 innings and then close the game out with a plus 95-98 mph fastball. It's to bad for him that it never worked out.
