I think Purpura's mindset when making trades is like a 13 yr old playing fantasy baseball. "Ooh, I've heard his name on ESPN, he must be a good player".

Purpura is a very bad GM, awful.
Many people believed Hirsh was better than Jennings considering contracts and all, it was insane to give 3 guys for a 1 year rental with an 83 mph fastball.
Purpura is awful.

The real question is ..
Did this outing hurt Jennings trade value?
The answer is...
Probably not, he sucked ass all year anyway.
We won't get a third of the value we gave to get him.

Jennings had already lost it last year but Purpura was apparently the only general manager in the league who forgot to read the latest scouting reports on Jennings skill as a pitcher declining.
What will likely happen is they'll offer Jennings the league minimum to make sure that he walks and then cover themselves by saying that they tried to re-sign him.
Looks like the Astros futility continues. Of course there is a silver lining around this dark cloud. I don't think the Astros have any more prospects to trade away for over-the-hill ballplayers. So, no worries in that dept. for a while.

Yeah, I just hate it when guys go 3-3 with a walk and a home run. That's crappy.

Where did I say that defense wasn't important? I didn't say it because I wouldn't say it. It's just another example of one of your ridiculous conclusions you jump to on a regular basis.
Either ways, if you would take a second and actually *read* you would have seen my little smiley face to indicate I was joking around with you. Munson's a pretty good hitter, but not a good C. There's no doubt about that.
You're barking up the wrong tree if you think I'm defending Burke.

As a catcher, Munson sucks. We MUST find a full-time catcher.

As a catcher, Munson sucks. We MUST find a full-time catcher. It seems this franchise has been looking for an" impact" catcher for 45 years. Hall of Fame/All-Star 2Bs fall off trees around here, but we have little more than adequate at catcher, from John Bateman to Johnnie Edwards to Milt May to Joe Ferguson to Alan Ashby to Brad Ausmus with a roue of true mediocrity like Merritt Ranew, Dave Adlesh, Ron Brand, Hal King, Skip Jutze, Mark Bailey, Randy Knorr, Scott Servais, Eddie Taubensee....ad nauseum. I'm not asking for a Johnnie Bench but jeesh, to just once escape from the black hole would be nice. This team has no third baseman, second baseman, first baseman, catcher, third, fourth or fifth starter, GM or manager. Other than that, everything is peachy. It will be 5 or more years before we sniff contention again. Considering the fluke runs that got us into the wild cards, this team has actually been pretty crappy for a long time. Were it not for the wild card to have kept our interest stoked , there wouldn't be 15,000 in attendance. We haven't had this bad a team since 1975 when we were in receivership after Hofeinz screwed everything up. I still think the etiology of most of this lays at the feet of Craig Biggio. He completely screwed up the batting order and defensive alignment for about thre years now. I'll bet by the time he gets into the Hall of Fame we will STILL not have made another WS appearance. I don't think I have the emotional energy to follow this team anymore. I find reminiscing about the Colt .45s much more enjoyable than this non-sense. I think I'll follow B-G-O lead and hang 'em up.

Crash.. I understand your point, but I think you overstate just a tad. This is hasnt been pretty crappy for a long time. They have been crappy in 06 and 07 but prior to that this has been a pretty good team for a long time, evidenced by the fact that only 4 teams have a better record than our Astros since Drayton took over. Thats all of MLB. Only 2 teams in the NL have a better record and not by alot, Braves and Cards.
Now, we havent won a World Championship, thats true. That should now be the only thing that matters. But saying that Biggio will be in the HOF before that happens isnt a bad thing. Biggio will be in in 5 years. Just as a reference and because everyone seems to think this team is the end all be all, The Yankees have spent over 1 billion dollars in the last 7 years and dont have a WS Title. They only have 1 more appearance than out Astros. $ 1 BILLION. The Astros spent about 1/3rd that much. Thats a ton of money.
This team will be in contention sooner than you think.
The Astros dont need to spend $200 million per year to win it all. This team isnt that far off. 1st Berkman 2nd NEED 3rd Wiggington/Lamb SS Everett LF Lee CF NEED RF Pence C Need Pitching.. NEED.
Oswalt Sampson Wandy This team is full of good quality bench/role players.
It may be 2 years depending on Patton and some of the few young prospects we have and how much Drayton wants to spend.
Why would you need to hang em up? What are you going hang up? Your eyes? Try and enjoy it. We have been spoiled for alot of years. We could be the Cubs or Nationals or Rockies.
Hang in there. Its just baseball, not real life.
