Well, we all know why they played Biggio this year, and Biggio still does well at home. In fact, Biggio, at 58 years old has been better at home than Burke has been overall at the age of 27.
Either way, this thread was about Burke and how he's looked this year and over his career, not Biggio.
Fact is, 1000 plate appearances are a lot of chances. It's not like we're judging him after 20 at bats. It's been more than enough to see what he brings to the table. Burke's HAD his chances, been given regular starting jobs, and he's failed to take advantage of those chances. CF was his to lose this year, and he did lose it. Time and time again he's showed that he's a mediocre fielder with average offense. He's 27 and has had 1000 PA. Are you expecting him to suddenly become a good player now?

Burke hasnt been given regular playing time because like Lane, when he gets it he stinks up the joint. He has been good in spot starts, but the facts are what they are. Biggio is a HOF'er and Burke is another decent role player. Fans come to see Biggio play, not players like Burke.
If Burke hadnt hit that 18th inning homer in the playoffs to beat the Braves we might not even know his name now.

If we are building for the future, we have to stop worrying about the fans coming to see Biggio and concentrate on getting Burke ready to be the full-time second baseman, if that is the direction they are going. Playing Biggio the rest of the seaon only hinders our efforts to build for the future.

Why does it matter? Who do we have that we need to see play that we havent already?
Now, if you are talking about bring up Patton and Towles and guys like that ok. But Burke>? Been there done that. He is playing more now and will until the end of the year.
But who else?

Players that should play more or play in the majors:
1. Munson 2. Burke 3. Scott 4. Anderson (triple a) 5. Gutierrez 6. Randolph (better numbers and stuff than McLemore) 7. Bruntlett at SS
Waste at bats from:
Biggio, Loretta, Lamb, Ausmus
Waste innings, Woody, Mohler, Jennings
Garner should not be managing this team nor Purp be the GM.
This team has no vision, just like you if you believe is better to see Biggio over Burke right now, sorry but thats the TRUTH.

Its better to see Biggio at home here and there. You dont want him playing at all. Its personal with you.
I want to see Burke play as well, so we can finally put this thing to rest and people will shut up about Burke being the next Chase Utley.
Biggio playing doesnt bother me as long as it is only about 40% of the time and mostly at home where he is a MUCH better hitter than Burke.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Burke will NEVER be the next Utley, thats stupid, but he is going to be above average when given a time to play.
SECOND, IS NOT PERSONAL, ALL WITH YOU IS HATE AND PERSONAL, IS WHATS BEST FOR THETEAM AND RIGHT NOW IS PLAYTHE YOUNG GUYS.\\
40 PERCENT IS WAY TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR A TEAM GOING NOWHERE AND YOUNG GUYS ON THE BENCH.
BURKE PLAYING 60 PERCENT OF THE TIME IS PART TIME PLAYING.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT THEN IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HOW YOU JUDGE PLAYERS, THEN AGAIN, YOU ARE THE SAME PERSON THAT COMPARED ENSBERG TO AROD, SCOTT AN ALL STAR, BERKMAN AS GOOD AS PUJOLS, OSWALT BETTER THAN PEAVY, ECT.

To be honest, I know a LOT of baseball fans, many of them very knowledgeable, that have never been impressed with Burke.
MY CAPS LOCK KEY WORKS TOO! WOO-HOO!

I am the guy thats in the majority. You are the guy who seems to think you are the ultimate judge of players who like players no one else does. You make these blanket statements like we should all bow down in your presense when you make a proclamation about a baseball player. You have opinions just like everyone else and you know more than hembo, but thats about it. You know more names of minor league players, but ... so what?
Well. lets look at that your big 3 from the Astros that you proclaimed would have HUGE 2007 seasons.
Ensberg- you were wrong. Lane - you were wrong. Burke - you are wrong.
Those 3 players you said would have great years. They havent. They wont. They are just not very good.
Oswalt is better than Peavy and has been for years. Peavy is having a better year this year, but Oswalt has had better years FOR YEARS. Berkman is in the same class as Pujols and only you and hembo think otherwise. Pujols may be at the front of the class and Berkman in the back, but he is at least in the room.
Ensberg in 2005, when I said it, was comparable to AROD, FOR THAT SEASON. Which is what I said. YOu and hembo can keep shouting it till the cows come home but your lying when you say I said Ensberg was as good as AROD.
Now quit with the spin game little man.

Ensberg, i was wrong? ?? Hmmmm, i was not the one that compared Ensberg to Arod, IT WAS YOU. Actually, when Ensberg started for the AStros i said i was not impressed wiht what i saw at winter league from him, i am on the record, actually, i wanted the astros to re sign castilla, i am on record, you are the one tha loved ensberg from the beginning.
