Hey, Cubs, butt the fnck out of our season. OK, we'll pitch Williams and Jennings for your "meaningful games". Will THAT make you happy? We'll keep the guys that can bang out 20 hits and score 15 runs on the bench so fart-faces like Biggio and Ausmus can do whatever it is they did to get us to the lofty heights of......last place. A part of me wants the Cubs to win a fncking WS already so they'll shut the hell up about it and let us wallow deeper in our self-pity. Another part of me wants to see Cubs nation eat $hit till the day I die. A VERY big part of me....GO BREWERS.... EAT $HIT CUBS.

Cubs have every right to b*tch...They're fighting for their playoff lives and we throw three rookies...Its bullchit...Actually, the rookies we have up there now should have been here at all star break, but i feel the cubs have a legit beef
what goes around comes around...you watch..astros will be within a game or two one of these days and the cubs will bring out the rookie parade

Except for Oswalt, the rookies are better than anything we had to put out there.

with the "best" players this team has 2nd worse record in baseball, so young guys can ONLY DO BETTER. Hmmmm, Biggio does not play and we win big, again? //

As I recall the circumstance, we had absolutely no choice but to pitch 2 rookies. Oswalt's wife ws scheduled to have her labor induced, so his start was skipped too. I remember a few years ago when, in the middle of a pennant race, or maybe even in the post-season, the Mike Lamb's had a kid and he was excused from a couple of games. We thus lost our most effective left-handed bat off the bench in the very games that mattered most. (Pleae recall the movie 61* where Roger Maris didn't get a chance to see his newborn child for about a month until the Yankees swung through KC). Anyway, I thought that was complete bull$hit of Lamb to miss such crucial games. Now, if Mike Lamb can be permitted to miss such crucial games HIS OWN TEAM is playing, then the Cubs have no right to b*tch about Oswalt missing a start (for the same reason) - after we had been eliminated. Besides, by the time we get back into contention and the Cubs can "return the favor", what went around that will come around will be completely immaterial.

i totally agree with your assessments people, but the fact remains they are rookies.. You dont have to tell me how bad the starters are but nonetheless the appearance of trying new guys out in the last two weeks of the season looks bad....we had this conversation about a month ago and i asked if there had ever been any circumstances to where people have seen teams do this before...Even you(chandler) said starting a team full of rookies looks bad..I really need to find that thread
hey, i think these rookies are playing better than the starters but still they're losing...on the other hand i dont know what the cubs expect as this team has sucked all year

No, I said that you play your best players, especially when playing contending teams in September.
Like I said, who should they start instead? oswalt was with his family, just like anyone would be (at least anyone with enough sense to realize family comes FIRST). Williams isn't any more effective than those rookies, Wandy's turn wasn't up yet.

Chandler, there are many soldiers who miss the births of their children while serving their country. What ballplayers do is SO important that our society sees fit to pay them HUNDREDS of times more than soldiers. They should be expected to make a fraction of the sacrifice expected of soldiers to earn their pay. They volunteered to play ball and should understand that circumstances may arise that might cause them to make sacrifices not expected of others. I just don't think the birth of a child is so precarious that a player should miss a game that is important enough to define the player's very raison d'etre. Fifty years ago, when childbirth was perhaps 10 times risker, the players wouldn't even think of it, not even in mid-season. I wonder if you ask Pat Maris and her now grown child if they would rather Roger had been in attendance or had gotten 61* which they would choose. Personally, I have no doubt they would choose the HR record.

btw...i can tell you this...if i paid a ballplayer 12-15 mil per year, i would have his ass pitch/play when i need them to...todays ballplayers are prima donnas..the yankees have the biggest...joba chamberlin claims he needs 1 day off for every inning pitched? sure, why not, ill pay him based on availability...f**k that..roy would have pitched or been fined

I would hope that if we were in the pennant race that Oswalt wouldln't have missed this start, but, I doubt it. Babies are born everyday without the father being present and I'm sure Oswalt and his wife can afford the best medical attention for the mother and child. I thought it was bad when Lambe missed those games, too. These players either need to be prepared to skip the birth of their children or plan to arrange things so their wives give birth during the off-season.

I'm not sure why Mrs. Oswalt was induced. If it were due to an emergency medical condition such as toxemia, there would not have been time to wait 4 to 5 days to schedule it and have it be known he was missing the start. If it was just an elective induction, it could easily have been scheduled around the pitching rotation. But let's just say we were in the pennant race and were neck and neck with the Brewers. Oswalt, the ace of our staff, could very easily have missed a start that could have cost us a pennant. We missed out last year by what, ONE WIN? Roy gets paid what he does BECAUSE of being the very ace you want in these kind of games. Just like no hazardous sports clauses, there ought to be no coitus clause for Dec and Jan by which players might misss critical games in Sept and Oct.
Truth be told, Roy has been battling that chest muscle injury for quite a while and the obstetric excuse ws a good one to have him shut it down whilst lending a "plausible deniability" to accusations of jaking the Cubs.

actually jb has a point...They're so far out i guess it doesnt matter..having said that, oswalt is in a contract to pitch when the team needs him(which is every 5th day) why should the astros pay 250 -300 k for a missed start he wasnt injured on? im not trying to be the bad guy but the owners always b*tch about how much they lost..well its sh*t like this that adds up...what if a couple of guys like berkman or lee miss a few games to be with their wives and throw in a high priced pitcher missing a start...you're talking probably a million dollars....I guess if the owners dont mind its all good

I'll put it in plain language........these guys either need to use condoms or put their wives on the pill if it will cause them to miss games if their wives are pregnant and have to give birth during the season. Plan your screwing sessions so that they don't interfer with your jobs, damn it!!
