Pete Rose for the HOF

Kenneth is winding up his leave. He and his gal took a trip to Vegas and stopped by Cesar's Palace. Ken noticed Pete Rose signing autographs. He went into the store to buy a baseball for Pete to autograph. When the hostess saw his military ID, she said, "Here, take this, Pete would want you to have it". What she handed him was the Reds jersey seen above. She took him to the head of the line and introduced him an an Lt serving in Afghanistan. Pete said, "I hope you didn't pay for those [the ball and jersey]. If you did, go get your money back. I ain't taking money from a guy putting his ass on the line for me."

He and Kenneth shared some small talk, Kenneth thanked him for playing all out whenever he saw him play and called him "the modern day Ty Cobb". Pete said "Bye, thanks for your service --- go get those crazy bastards".

It made my son's day. Whenever the topic of Pete for the HOF comes up, he has my support.

Well, at least he RETIRED after he had one bad year (and he was not a starter) instead of Biggio who sucked for 3 years taking time from BETTER players and money insted of giving money to have him play.

Rose didnt retire after 1 bad year. Rose was very Biggio like his last 4 or so years.

Rose's last four years were terrible. He got on base a little more than Biggio, but had much less power. What was really sad is that he played 1B those years. Really an overrated player in general and a douchebag to go along with it, have no problem with him not being in the hall.

Especially considering he knowingly broke a rule (one that is posted in all clubhouses, mind you) that carried a clearly defined punishment of permanent banishment from the game.

I'm really glad he did right by Crash's son, but that doesn't make up for everything else he's done.

Also, HIS LAST YEAR HE DID NOT START, he was a PART TIME PLAYER.

Rose last 3 years:

1986 the OBP was .316 (awful year, but he was a PART TIME PLAYER)
1985 the OBP was .395
1984 the OBP was .359

So, I would say, he retired 1 year too late BUT he was not a regular player in 1986.

The thing is, baseball is more than just OBP. SLG counts a lot also. When you're playing 1b and hitting for piss poor power like Rose was, you're NOT doing a good job for your team. South is dead on in his assessment.
