Mr. Wade, you are off to a good start. You removed Jason Lane from the Astros roster. Now, I have a few suggestions for you to do during the off-season.
1. Sign Joe Nathan to be our closer. 2. Trade Brad Lidge to Florida for Dontrelle Willis. You may have to throw in Luke Scott. 3. Re-sign Mark Loretta. You may get him, but, the past administration probably killed any chances you have of keeping Mike Lamb and he's needed more than Loretta. We have Cody Ransom to step into Loretta's spot. 4. Release Woody Williams 5. Re-sign Brad Ausmus as backup catcher. 6. DO NOT RE-SIGN JASON JENNINGS!!!! 7. Sign Tory Hunter or Allan Rowand to play centerfield. Let Josh Anderson be th 4th outfielder for the time being. 8. Try to sign a veteran starting pitcher as a bridge until at least one of the youngsters is ready to do the job. 9. Shop Wandy Rodriguez.
Other suggestions may follow, but, for now that's all I have to tell you.
Our starting rotation could be OK if we have these five in the rotation.
1. Roy Oswalt 2. Dontrelle Willis 3. Veteran signed to bridge the gap 4. Brandon Backe 5. Wandy/ Guiterrez

I think you have a typo on your #3 suggestion.

I'm not sure. What I'm suggesting is that we need Lamb worse than we need Loretta. I think keeping Ransom and Lamb might be better than keeping Loretta.

They should get much more than what we are offering for Willis.
Second, i think Nathan is going to cost a lot of money. What they need is a CF but we traded Tavares for Jennings, GREAT.

The Twins have a $6 million club option on Nathan with a $1M buyout. I really can't see them letting that go. I also don't think Willis is worth Lidge, at least not this year, but he *is* young and this year could just be a fluke.
I could see them re-signing Jennings for a 1 year contract with a low guaranteed salary. He'll need to re-prove himself. Before he was injured, he was a good pitcher in the past.
AARON Rowand is going to want Gary Mathews Jr. type money and he's really not had a track record of being worth that much money.

The Astros would give two Lidges and a half hearted reach-a-round for Willis.

Chandler, sorry I bungled Rowand's first name. I forgot how picky some people can be.

Willis would be a better #2 starter than anyone we have.

The Astros would give two Lidges and a half hearted reach-a-round for Willis. Probably more than a half-hearted one. ;D

Willis would be a better #2 starter than anyone we have. If he improves upon what he's done this year, then yeah no doubt. If he continues to pitch in the future as he has in 2007, then we have other options than can put up 5 era's for a lot less money.
