You could bring back Pettitte and bring in Posada. With Torre probably gone, Pettitte and Posada may not want to stay either.

Clemens could be paid 4 millions per year.

Does anyone really think that Scott Boras will allow ARod to sign with the Astros? Does anyone really think that Draytie will go after another Boras client? The answer to both questions is a resounding NO! Personally, I'd like to have him but it ain't gonna happen.

JB, I agree but he sure would look nice in an Astros' uniform. Besides, his contract level is set, to me if Drayton is willing to pay the level its at now then there is no need for any negotiations. Borass' influence would be negligible.
But in the real world, it won't happen but I just can't get over thinking how many HR's Arod would hit to the crawford boxes. That would go a long way to increasing our team run totals and making it a whole lot better for our pitching staff. Which may be important if we are going to war with ROY and a bunch of unproven pitchers.

plus, would be playing SS, taking one weak spot offensively and inserting great numbers, meaning, we could use a very good D Cfer in Anderson.

Vega.. if the Astros were to sign Pettite, Posada and Arod ( it isnt happening) How good would the Astros be even with weak 4 and 5 starters and a weak bullpen?

YOU are the one talking about Posada, we have Towles, WE DONT NEED POSADA.
Good thing you are not our GM

Forget Posada. If we signed ARod and added a couple of quality starting pitchers, we would have a great shot at goiing to the WS. I'm still worried about the pen. I think Lidge should be dealt and we need to go after a guy like Joe Nathan to close. If we won't go after ARod.....and we won't......let's go after Tori Hunter or Aaron Rowland.

i dont think thats a stretch for drayton..hell he paid clemens that...however i hear arod want to play shortstop again..that would rule him coming here as the astros already have the best defensive SS...thats what people here say anyways... ;D

Doug.. if Arod opts out the contract goes away. It would actually save the Rangers a good bit of money.

If he opts out and then re-signs with the Yanks, they're responsible for the whole bill. If he stays in his current deal, then the Rangers put in a good chunk of cash. You can bet the Rangers are praying that he opts out.
