Woody was a huge disappointment, he was nothing like the Astros expected him to be. Woody got bombed more times last year than Speedy did. Do you think they were expecting an ace out of him? They knew going into the season what he was going to bring to the team. He wasn't great, but in more than half his starts he went at least 6 innings and allowed 3 er or less. A 5th starter who does that while pitching 188 innings is not hurting the team. They were not expecting him to be a #5. He was really awful last year.

The Astros have always been a team that gives guys too many chances. That's why I am so tired of this "Good Guys" crap. That's the problem, too many good guys. How about a little attitude?

Barron, agree, Astros EXPECTED Woody to be number 3.
They expected Jennings to be a number 2.
They expected Wandy to be number 4 (he did good for number 4).
They expected Nieve or Sampson to be number 5.
Disappointments, Jennings number 2 and Woody number 3, THATS FOR SURE.
Now, we can argue also that Oswalt was not a great number 1 either.

Roy had a bad year last year, at least bad for him. I choose to believe that it was because our defense sucked as a team and he tried to pitch differently than normal. Look at his walk totals and pitch counts. He was trying to be too fine.
Now the defense is pretty much fixed, let's see where he goes.

careful vega...you are treading on sacred ground here....I got many negative comments last year for saying Oswalt disappointed.... I agree with both you and Vega. Oswalt had what I think was hsi worst season in 2007. I think part of that was due to the fact that we got out of contention so early and he saw no reason to kill himself for a lost cause. If we show signs of contention next year, look for him to bounce back and be the #! starter he has been in the past. It's hard to be mentally into it when you know that after you pitch, you are being backed up by crap like Jennings and Woody.

It also didn't help that Roy O got the Clemons treatment. Pitch a damned good game and the hitting goes to sh*t behind you. along with some pretty sh*tty defense at 2b, it all added up to him having a below average season.

Fact is that Roy didn6t lose because he got poor support...he lost because he was not as effective as in the past....He walked way more than normal...I hope he is all straightened out this next year. ...That said, the whole team sucked last year but we will be 10 games better than last year on getting rid of Lane and Ensburg alone.
