sports.espn.go.com/mlb/index?&lpos=globalnav&lid=gn_MLB_MLBThey give up two coveted prospects, Andrew Miller and Cameron Maybin, but this really is a great deal for the Tigers. Dontrelle's last season was an aberration and he will at least be a good pitcher in the AL. Cabrera is one of the best hitters in baseball and heading to the hall. CF Granderson 2B Polanco 3B Cabrera RF Ordonez DH Sheffield 1B Guillen C Pudge SS Renteria LF Jacque Jones Best lineup in baseball

Florida comes out ahead on this deal. Miller could likely be better than Willis in the long run, and now they have Maybin and others.

When it comes time to pay them, the Marlins will dump them, too.

I dont see where one could say the marlins got the better deal? willis is a proven starter and cabrera is probably the third best offensive player in baseball...what have miller and mayban done but be called future stars? Thats a bold statement chandler Thats much the same as me saying the yankees can trade ian kennedy, hughes, joba and melky cabrera for albert Pujols and carpenter and that the cardinals are getting the better deal
or maybe the astros can trade berkman, oswalt and pence to the rangers for their top 3 minor league guys and hank blalock
its not a knock on the hypothetical rangers prospects, joba, melky or anybody... but pujols, oswalt, berkman, carpenter and pence are proven commodities..these other guys have done exactly nothing

Nooooooooooooooo, Maybin is going to be a star. Miller is better than Willis. They got a backup catcher plus 3 future major league pitchers.
They got top 10 talent (from Det list) in 4 of the 6 players, including the number 1 and 2 players. The other 2 are top 15.
Florida did GREAT.

Looking at the players involved, I would say that both teams got what they wanted and needed. I do agree that the Marlins will dump these guys as soon as they are eligible for free agency to avoid paying.

come on vega...You're better than that...maybe they will but who knows? i remember when gregg jefferies was going to be the next mickey mantle...These future stars, well, most dont turn out like arod or pujols or hell even berkman...pat burrell and JD drew were two of the most talked about guys a decade ago..while they have both turned into good players they certainly didnt live up to the hype
who was more talked about last year than alex gordon? how did he end up doing? felix Pie? yes these type of players are young but you know what you're getting with cabrera and willis...all the promise in the world only goes so far at that level and then you're gone. Theres been countless guys called the next big thing that are now working 9-5 jobs not in baseball.
Unless i misundertood chandler? If thats the case i apologize..if he meant these guys could walk in a year so why not trade them now and get more young guys?

yes, willis, a bad pitcher at this moment.
Cabrera, a fat guy that is not going to be able to play 3b for long.
Maybin is the real deal (remember, i mentioned Tulo before anyone here talk about him).
Maybin is a special talent.
Miller, well, lefty that throws 93-95 with no effort, and 98, well, i take him over Willis ANYDAY.

actually cabrera lost 15 lbs over the winter so far, but its a moot issue as he will probably DH if they keep inge.. miller throws 95? and? The guys at this level can catch up to 100 mph +. Thats why they're at that level...
just food for thought here
cabrera over 4 1/2 years and still only 24
2694 at bats...138 hr's, 523 rbis... .313 avg.. .401 obp .542 slugg and a .929 ops
cameron maybin has 49 at bats and has struck out half of those and batted .143..where will he be in 4 years when he turns 24?....
i forgot about sheffield and jones...i'd say inge is gone for sure

sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/mlb/news?slug=ab-rotoarcade_120507Miguel Cabrera just moved up five spots in 2008 fantasy drafts. And no, there's not a basket of cheese fries sitting in the middle of the first round. Cabrera moved up because he was traded from the Marlins to the Tigers. The other names with fantasy relevance in the eight-player deal are Dontrelle Willis, Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller. We'll address those players shortly. For now, let's talk about Cabrera. Despite the fact that he's entering his sixth major league season, he's actually only seven months older than Ryan Braun, the National League's Rookie of the Year. Cabrera's most productive seasons are very likely ahead of him, yet the 24-year-old has already established himself as an elite hitter. Over the past three years he's averaged 103 runs, 44 doubles, 31 home runs and 116 RBI per season, and he hit .327/.405/.564. Again, those are his average seasons, not his career bests. These are Cabrera's worst single-season totals from the past three years: 157 games played, 91 runs, 38 doubles, 26 home runs, 114 RBI, .320 average, .385 on-base percentage, .561 slugging percentage. He's now joining a lineup that might be the best in baseball – they were actually pretty close without him. Detroit was second in the American League in runs scored last season with 887, and their team batting average was 20 points higher than Florida's.

Are you already giving up on 23 yr old Alex Gordon after just ~500 major league at bats?

Hembo, how many lefties throw 95 in the majors? Especially, how many starters? Kazmir is one. Let me give you his scouting, he has plus fastball and plus SLIDER, hmmmm, sounds like another kazmir. His slider is called, DEADLY SLIDER. Fastball, up to 98 mph and movement.
If we believe Patton is good, Miller is way over Patton's talent.

It must be a sign that the apocalypse is forthcoming but I have to agree with Vega on this.
I think the Marlins got the better end of the deal although its not a big edge for sure. They were not going to resign them anyways and Willis has steadily declined in Ks and control as his BBs and ERA has steadily rose, the last couple of years.
I think the Tigers gave up a whole lot to get them so they are gambling that a change of scenery will do Willis some good. Maybe it will. Cabrera is a quality hitter but may be declining in Defense. He is still very young so only time will tell for sure.

Are people honestly telling me they dont know the difference between proven players and could be good players? so what if he throws 95 vega? maddux can throw 92 and he's how old?...These players can catch up to that 95 mph pitch, bro ...anybody who thinks a major league player cant hit 95 is fooling themselves...even everett can catch up to that velocity.. w.o another pitch these guys are sh*t
