Cabrera would be a nice player to have no doubt. But I doubt the Astros have anything the Marlins would want. Plus, I think he may be a FA after this season so you could go after him in the off season and not have to trade any prospects to get him.
hembo.. I dont know what your hangup is with Berkman, but no one but you will ever say" Lance who". Lance Berkman is a great hitter.
The Astros need to trade Brad Lidge to the Tigers for Cameron Maybin and get a 3rd baseman in the off season.
The Astros need to get younger and more athletic.

The Astros do NOT need to trade Brad Lidge at this time. Do we have a potential closer in our organization.......Hell NO!!

NO Closer in the minors? So what. The Astros have too many holes to fill. If the Astros can get a player like Maybin for Lidge they should do it RIGHT now.
WE need to move on to the future. I am not convinced Brad Lidge can be like he was before. He costs waaay to much money and the risk is there. He has value again and the Astros should take advantage of that.

The thing is, we're not competing this year, so there's not a big need for a high priced reliever that's only going to get more expensive. If Lidge stays healthy, he's our #1 bargaining tool right now. We could get a nice return for him in a trade. Between now and July 31, teams are likely to make nice offers for Lidge, Loretta, and Lamb.
We can find a closer somewhere in the system. You can either use Wheeler or Qualls or someone from the minors. Converted starters sometimes make real good closers.

If we make a deal that involves Lidge, Lamb, or Loretta, we need to make it understood that they have to take Ensberg off our hands, too.

astrobuddy it sure is this year. When Lance had a chance this year to step up and take this team over for his team. HE HAS BLOWN IT> I am very disappointed in his play when it counted. He is nothing more than a top knotch tooth in a cog, Not A Leader-- sure does give too many excuses for his poor play and doesn't seem to let it brother him. His comments yesterday is what he is. A country boy who can hit a baseball when the team has REAL LEADERS FOR HIM TO FOLLOW

His whole career Berkman throws and fields just fine. He isnt a great runner, I will give you that. He is a career .300 hitter. His career OPS is higher than AROD's. He isnt a .261 hitter. Lance is having a down year.

Why does he HAVE to be a leader? Why? .. and how do you know he isnt?
Bagwell damn sure was a leader in the clubhouse and you didnt know it. We know it now because they are talking about it, but people complained for years about Bagwell not acting like he cared.
You dont have a clue what goes on in the clubhouse and whether or not Berkman is a leader.
You prefer a leader like Gary Sheffield? I guess in order to be a leader you have to be a loud mouth who calls out your team mates in public and makes it
Berkman is having an off year. You dont throw him to the curb because of it. This team wasnt good enough to win anyway. You think the players dont know that?

Unless you're on that team, in that clubhouse, out there in the field, and with the team during ST, you don't know who IS or is NOT a leader. To say otherwise is baseless speculation.
