Relatively speaking - in terms of league offense in the most dismal hitter's park in baseball, the year Walt Bond had in '64 wasn't all that far off from the ol' Glue Factory Swayback's projections.

Speaking of a glue factory, that might be a good place to send Biggio and Berkman. I'm tired of watching Berkman's useless ass play. He looks like a little pouting 8-yer old.

but one thing is for sure, he is no pujols.
At least you are not repeating that pujols was strugging AS MUCH as Berkman because that is just not true.

Sure they can release him, they'd just have to eat his contract.

1B - Berkman, has the knee injury destroyed his power stroke? 2B - Having Burke as the 2B of the future kinda puts Ernie Fazio in a good light SS- Wingnut is re-defining the Mendoza line. Hereafter it will be know as "scaling Mount Everett" 3B- We simply don't have one. C- ditto. Things have gone downhill ever since they cut Jerry Grote. RF- quasi-ditto. The ones we've got might produce in a "productive" line-up (see Bell, Derek), but they ain't worth jack alone. LF- $100 million dollars probably could have covered every dime the organization paid out in salary to all the ballplayers at every level from 1962 to 1997. Signing fat-assed ballplayers to $100 million contracts to play LEFT FIELD is about as stupid a move as you can make in baseball. It makes the Gluebag a fixture at a position that should be malleable enough to bring up a rookie (like Berkman) or string out a player like Burke or Biggio or Scott or.... CF - Pence - about the only guy worth tuning in to see an at bat - kinda like Wynn and Cedeno.
Yep, James, the '64 Colt .45s had a brighter future than this mess.

Berkman, 32 years, average fielder. .304 average .416 OBP .621 sluggin
Pujols, gold glove first basemen, 27 years and .332 average .431 OBP .671 slugging
Sorry, but Pujols and Berkman are NOT in the same league.
And, Pujols is on his prime, looks like Berkman at 32 is starting so decrease his talent.

yeah right they are going to eat such a contract. One thing is for sure, right now it does not look like he deserves taht contract.

1b - if the power is gone because of the knee, why did he still have a lot of power last year? 2b - agree ss - SS is a defensive position. He's doing his job. 3b - I guess Ensberg and Lamb aren't 3b, they're fakes. RF - We need an upgrade here or let Scott alone and see what he can do when he gets to play more than 2 games in a row LF - Lee is a bright spot in the lineup, so far having the best year of his career. When you need offense, you take the bats where you can get them. CF - Yep
Colt .45s?? Really?

Berkman didnt have any trouble with hitting for power last season.
Vega.. there was a point this season when Pujols was going worse than Berkman. He has come out of it to some extent, but he still isnt having a Pujols year.

SS was a defensive position 20 years ago, now we need offense from that position.

No, last time I checked SS was still a position on the field.
If we were getting good offense from 1b, 3b, RF (all your typical offensive spots), it wouldn't be as big an issue.

Hmmm, lets see: .297 .386 OBP .484 slugging I bet you his OPS is close to Carlos Lee, now, Berkman, the natural has an OPS that is closer to Scott and Burke OUCH
