The Astros situation at SS, C, 1B and LF is deadly - for us, not the opponent. Crash, you crack me up. You really do. Having Berkman (who will turn it around) and Lee out there in the lineup is 'deadly' for the team? chandler, this is the point ---- imagine if we had a D ickie Thon at SS and a Johnny Bench at C. That would be awesome because you have such offensive output from such key defensive positions. When their defensive skills deteriorate, you can still work them in the line-up somewhere to take advantage of their residual offense. When you rely on LF and 1B for the lion's share of your offense, you have a noose around your nuts. There is no place left to hide them defensively. And they constipate any mobility in your line-up because those are the positions you can most readily find guys like Lamb/Scott/Burke to play when you are trying to decide how to straighten out your lineup. Like I said, a guy like Walt Bond was trash-heap material in '64. He had something like 20 HRs, 85 RBI, .285 BA off the top of my head recollection. In the context of Colt Stadium and NL offensive output circa '64, Walt Bond's output is VERY COMPARABLE to what is projected for GlueBall. You don't need to waste $100million on a LEFT FIELDER that gives you the kind of offense GlueBall does. That kind of money needs to be reserved for SS's and CF's and perhaps 3B's and the rare multi-talented 1B like Bagwell. Not a damned LEFT FIELDER. Also, I wouldn't be surprised that, if and when Berkboy turns it around, it is going to be with another team.

imagine if we had a D ickie Thon at SS and a Johnny Bench at C. That would be awesome because you have such offensive output from such key defensive positions. Imagine if we had Mike Schmidt at 3b, Biggio from the 90s at 2b, Mantle in CF, Aaron out there in the OF. That would be awesome also. Most MLB teams rely on LF and 1b for offense. Those are typically the offensive positions. You get big time offense from your corner OF and IF spots and let CF, SS, C be defensive minded guys. No it's not even close to what's projected for Carlos Lee (is it that hard for you to call players by their given names?). Walt Bond hit .253 (not even close to .285)/.310/.420 in '64. Those numbers, even when taken into context, aren't anywhere close to what Lee's projected to hit. Bond's OPS+ was 109. Right now Lee is hitting .310/.339/.533 with an OPS+ of 127. When you get a chance to significantly improve the offense, you take it. Why? He's not going anywhere, nor does he want to. Berkman has a long term deal and a full no trade clause.

sh*t, Chandler, I'm gunna have to leave this f*cking forum too. Why don't you just go the hell away. You're a real pain in the ass. You were one on whatever forum we were at when you said how much you loved orange and I pointed out prisoners in orangejump suits. Remember that?
Anyway, enough is enough. I've had it with you. I've had it with the Astros. I've had it with b*tching about them in forums. To hell with this. Please, if there is a God in heaven, point me to a forum that DOES NOT HAVE YOU IN IT.

sh*t, Chandler, I'm gunna have to leave this f*cking forum too. Crash, there's no need to leave. Mea culpa for taking your rants and turning it into a debate. In the future I'll do a better job of recognizing a rant or when someone's just venting, and not nit pick their points. My sincere apologies.

You know, I think we need to respect that not everyone is going to want to debate to the n'th degree on every post they make.
Chandler, thanks for taking the first step and apologizing.
Guys, I want this to be a fun place for everyone. If you find yourself having a conflict over and over with the same person. Try not responding directly to them when they post.

I can't believe that anyone would think that Chandler is a pain in the ass. He probably has a book of stats to prove that he isn't.

No sh*t. I figured you had the monopoly on the 'pain in the ass' title, but I guess I didn't do enough research into it.
