Given where we are, this is what I do if I were Drayton....
1. Cut payroll. I'm serious, he's overpaying for too many folks. I'd force the new GM to aggressively work the minor leagues and undervalued gems in the trade and waiver markets. (Hunsicker was a master at this.) 2. I'd bring in a GM with Oakland experience working for Billy Bearne, if not Billy Beane himself. This situation calls for Moneyball. 3. Can Cooper. He hasn't done anything different from Garner. Maybe a nice guy but he hasn't shown me he's earned a spot at the party. Bring back Tony Pena instead.
Here's the starting line up......
1B - Adam Dunn 2B - Ty Wigginton 3B - Cody Ransom SS - Adam Everett C - Humberto Quintero RF - Lance Berkman LF - Carlos Lee CF - Hunter Pence
Starting Pitchers
Roy Ozwalt Brandon Backe Woody Williams Wandy Rod Matt Albers
Relievers
Chad Qualls (closer) Dave Borkowski (set up) Trever Miller Brian Moeller Juan Gutierrez
Bench
OP Bruntlett J.R. Towles
Given the state of the Central Division, this team could compete, winning around 90 games, at a payroll about 2/3 of today's.

How do you cut payroll yet sign Adam Dunn? I would love to go get him, but I would also like to see the Astros look at getting Torii Hunter. Berkman should be at 1st.
Ransom at 2nd, not Wiggington.

I'm glad you won't be the GM because we would finish last......GUARANTEED. We don't need to bring in Adam Dunn to lead the league in strikeouts. We sure as hell don't need to waste money bringing Orlando Palmeiro back.......he should have been released a long time ago.......he's dead weight. Moeller and Borkowski both suck and should also be released. Humpty Dumpty doesn't need to catch, either.

Dunn would be a great add JB.
40+ homers and 90+ RBI's? Nah... we dont need that.

I figure we get rid of Biggio, Lidge, Loretta, Ausmus, Lamb and we'd freed up enough money to cut the payroll and still add a decent free agent. Wigginton at 3B is working now, I was just thinking of him as perhaps the cure to the 2B woes. I think he's a natural 2B if I'm not mistaken. But him at 3rd and Ransom at 2nd works for me.
Adam Dunn's power could reach the right field seats consistently. Who cares about strike outs? The all time Strike out leaders are Reggie Jackson and Mickey Mantle.
We need an arm at Catcher and there's not a better one out there available than Quintero. Have you ever seen him play?
By the way, we're tied for last right now, so we can't do worse.

Hoiw do you plan to acquire Dunn? He isn't a free agent. Also, we don't need to move Berkman to the outfield. It makes our defense even worse. Can you imagine the ground Pence would have to cover with Lee in left and Baby Huey in right? Leave Berkman at first......besides he whines about playing the outfield......He has to move too much. And, any guy who makes $14 million a year shouldn't have to do anything he doesn't want to, right AB??

wow, that is a stupid lineup. Do you know how important defense is? ?/ This is NOT softball. That team is even WORSE than the one we have this year.

And to have a rookie catcher not playing in the majors is dumb.

Vega, with the exception of Everett and Pence, that would be the worst defensive team in the major leagues. Add that pitching staff to it and you're guaranteed 100 losses.

Wig is not good at 3b defensively, he is horrible at 2nd. Ransom IS NOT A STARTER in the majors. Dunn is signed with REds. Lidge is our best reliever, we have a bad bullpen, giving our best reliever is INSANE. Quintero is a back up catcher, nothing more.
Imagine a lineup with Quintero, Everett, Ransom and a pitcher.
OUCH.

Dunn's contract expires after this season with an Option $13,000,000, that alot of Reds fans dont think the Reds will pick up.
But he isnt signed, not yet.
