Great pitching stops great hitters? That logic? You have never heard that?
JB.. they won the NL pennant. Thats what counts. The WS is nice, but those Yankees teams were great. You cant say they werent good because the Yankees won.

Er, Chandler.........did you read that? I don't know if it's all his fault that ARod has never played in the WS but, he sure hasn't done anything to help the cause. He sucks worse than I thought in post-season play. Er JB why don' t you take a look at his playoff stats as a whole and not a small number of them? Judging a player by his playoff stats is questionable to begin with; only judging him by 1/3 of them is downright silly.

ab i just thought it kind of unusual...Do you think the astros experienced a phenomenon unlike any other team in the history of baseball? If you read these boards you know damned well im one of the first to say good pitching beats good hitting almost every time. having said that, one could also reasonably assume that when a hitter faces the same pitcher over and over, year in and year out, he is more familiar with that pitchers style..wouldnt you agree? Of course that doesnt mean he will naturally get a hit but its not really a stretch either
I do agree the advantage is with a good pitcher like maddux, smoltz or glavine(in the 90's) Your statement though more or less suggested biggio and bagwell alone faced good pitching..As if every time they came up they brought in Jesus Christ to pitch to them
what also strikes me as odd is that you mentioned Atlanta. The team that in all of those years going to the WS they won it once... obviously some hit those pitchers...

Yes.. but no one in the NL did. Pads and Marlins did it once each in the NL. The Yankees and Braves of the 90's were well above the other teams.
Alot of the greats didnt hit well in the playoffs. No one said Jesus Christ, but Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz of the 90's are about as close as you can get. Like I said, The Yankees of the 9o's were a dynasty. Losing to the Braves wasnt an insult.

You don't have to look any further than Ryan Howard to see what can happen to good players in the play-offs. The difference in a great player and a legendary player is the player that can deliver under pressure and with it all on the line. With all respect to Bagwell and Biggio (who were admittedly great,) they never fit that definition of legendary, like Reggie Jackson, or Kurt Gibson.

Ken, agree, Manny has 20 homers, only 1 behind Bernie for all time in the playoffs.

All these expanded playoffs give players a tremendous opportunity to put up big playoff records....but the record I expect to be around for a long, long time is Mickey mantles...18 World series homers

Nope, tied Bernie for most homers in playoffs. You can say whatever you want but that is a great stat for a great player. I will ask you ONE thing, how many homers Bagwell and Biggio have in the post season? /
